The race for the 2012 Republican nomination for President is becoming more concrete. GOP candidates made their pitches to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington on Feb. 10-12 and a straw poll of attendees was taken. The Washington Post reports Rep. Ron Paul of Texas won the poll, with about 30 percent of the 3,742 ballots cast.
The poll doesn't say much as not one candidate received more votes than the other. Some of the biggest news from the weekend came from former vice presidential running mate Sarah Palin and she didn't even attend the conference. Palin hired former Bob Dole campaigner Michael Glassner as her chief of staff, signaling a possible run for the White House.
Now the speculation and discourse about Palin's politics will continue and gradually build to a formal announcement running for president (or not). Who would be Palin's ideal running mate should she win the Republican nomination? Here are some suggestions based upon traditional party tickets and even some like-minded individuals who would serve Republicans well in 2012.
Ron Paul would be ideal since he is from a southern state and can get a lot of voters in the huge Lone Star state. He could also galvanize more tea party voters and convince independents who lean to the right that Palin is a good idea. Paul will be 76 when the 2012 presidential election happens and then 80 when a potential first term is over. At least he'll only be vice president, but Paul will serve as a foil to Palin's youthful exuberance.
Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina is an excellent choice for Palin....

Carly Fiorina.
He was crucified at the hands of envious leftists the first time around. Mark 15:10: it was out of envy that the chief priests had handed Jesus over
Great minds think alike...see my tagline.
Ah, but He is going to be her campaign manager, not her running mate. Which is why she will win, despite the constant maundering of folks like you.
At this point, so say that ANYTHING is "solid" is ludicrous. Might I suggest you stop smoking those funny-smelling ciggies??
Didn’t stop another British national, now did it?
It could break two ways: the public turns against the MSM and Palin wins big, or the MSM wastes all its ammo attacking her letting another candidate win. I really hope she runs.
My candidate is Sarah and has been for some time now. I have vowed to raise not $1 but $2 million dollars for her campaign.
Pretty funny coming from a member of the delusional crowd.
Governor Christie is pro-Mosque, a gun-grabber and pro-amnesty, IIRC. Are you for those things?
That’s what Tim pawlenty’s campaign is, a campaign for vp. If we could pick up Wisconsin or minnesota or both, Obama is finished.
Pawlenty, Paul Ryan, Rick Perry, or chris Christie would be my guesses
Ditka would be a great vp!!!!
I guess I was being lazy. He allegedly fired a shot over a detainee’s head to get information. I don’t care what he did with or to the detainee quite honestly but it sounds like a possible problem. Just looking out for Sarah, since the “Palin rules” are in effect with her....well let’s just say that if she gets as far as teh nomination her choice will be the most scrutinized ever, and any black marks on the vp candidate’s record will be turned into the holocaust by the media.
My understanding was that the incident did indeed force him in some way to leave the military.
wooooweeee: “That is rich. Palinites fail to realize that her negatives with independents is 60% solid. Keep drinking the koolaid bucko.....” that’s a bitter serving of liberal koolaid the dominant liberal media has poured for you. When the time is right, those squishy independents will come around, and 15,000,000 Conservatives won’t stay home, like they did in ‘08.
C-PAK had their own little coming out party last week and it wasnt a pretty sight.>>>>>>>>>>>>

I was told that the scent of packed fudge permiated the environment.
These Fibertarians are just weekend whackos who need an axe to grind, Fiddling Neros basking in the aracane “Koolness” of Big Tent progressivism.Oh yes, the YOUNG will save the GOP? NOOOOOO!
The patriotic will save the GOP, or abandon it as a dead elephant. CPAC was full of dead elephants except for a few shining exceptions: David Horowitz and a couple of others.
CPAC is dead.I doubt you will see it within a few short yeaars.
Beyond that issue, all of these choices are poor choices. None of them has any real executive experience. All of them really need to stay in their current offices because holding Congress is also very important. If Sarah Palin needs Ron Paul to help her win Texas, then the GOP cannot win the White House anyway.
If she wins the nomination, her best choice would be someone like Tim Pawlenty. He has legitimate executive experience and is from a swing state. Personally, I don't see any way that a Sarah Palin ticket wins, but I would be happy to support her if we reach that point.
Rudy would be a great Attorney General, not VP,and he stuck up for Sarah once.
All congresscritters have very little name recognition, and have no experience running anything except their Congressional Office, even then they leave it to staff members.
A few years hence we will have dozens of great candidates, especially present women Governors, but we need time to develop them.
Did Reagan ever throw corrupt fellow Republicans into jail? Did Reagan ever institute the largest civil engineering project in history? Did Reagan ever ever tell oil companies to start drilling or lose their leases? Did Reagan ever lead multiple candidates to historical electoral landslides in off year elections? The media hated Reagan, but they never moved in *ssholes next door to him, or brutally attacked his family. The left is showing us who they fear, by degrading Sarah, and they’ve go you sold. Listen, I think Reagan was great, and I was excited about Reagan while he was being attacked and denegrated, and we were told he could never win, by the same media. But, I’ve never seen a politician anywhere who can excite voters like Sarah Louise Palin. Good Luck, and I hope this helps.
Look, I hope you are right and she ends up as the nominee and wins 400+ electoral votes but I see zero chance of that happening. She in not very articulate and has pretty much zero support outside of a core group a conservative followers. I have family in Alaska that know her and her family personally and I can tell you that her support in her own state has dissolved to nothing. If she can’t muster the support of fellow Alaskans then there is ‘no’ way that she gets support from states where her approval rating is even lower.
