Stonewall Jackson is rolling over in his grave.
Next month his beloved Virginia Military Institute will be convening a celebration commemorating the 1300th anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Spain under the Muslim warlord Tariq ibn Ziyad in 711 A.D. The March 23-25 celebration entitled 711-2011: East Meets West and organized by VMIs Center for Leadership and Ethics, is scheduled to feature standard Muslim apologists Reza Aslan and Akbar Ahmed. VMI Superintendent Gen. J.H. Binford Peay has even filmed an invitation to the celebration.

Maybe the month after that they could throw a bash celebrating the German conquest of the Low Countries.

Not only was it Stoney Jackson’s alma mater, even Patton spent time there. Un-freakin-believable...
To: Islander7
Are they ‘celebrating’ it, or is it simply being studied in the context of military operations or conquests? That would be a legitimate avenue of study for a Military Institute.

Liberals have no mind, other than hate for America.
EVERTHING else, just does not matter to them, so consumed they are with intense disdain for the freedoms they enjoy.
They know not the danger they invite, because of their blindness.

Me, too. But study the enemy, so that when his face is recognized, we will know how he fights. I guess you have to start somewhere...

Sounds like a celebration to me. If they were to study it, it would NOT be a “celebration” but a symposium or some such.

Sounds like the charter meeting of the "Jews for Goebbels" fanclub. /sarc>
Any of these cretins ever hear of 9-11, Ft. Hood, or "The Caliphate" ...?
NO cheers, unfortunately.

Here's the
website for the event. There's no military focus evident. You can click through to the bios of the featured speakers; they have no military credentials.

From your link: "We celebrate the 1300th anniversary of Tariq ibn Ziyads crossing of the Straits of Gibraltar, setting into motion the fusion between two worlds. The agenda will tell the vital story of the achievements when Muslims, Christians, and Jews thrived side by side in Western Europe, building a society that lit the Dark Ages. Experts will discuss how to transform education, promote tolerance, political reform, and advance human development
so that we can emulate the spirit and triumphs of the early years."[emphasis mine]
Islamist propaganda designed to make us crave a new Moorish conquest.

I’m highly offended at this! My ancestors kicked their asses out of Europe for a reason! We should be celebrating their expulsion not glorifying their rule over my ancestors!

Event organizers describe the event as follows: We celebrate the 1300th anniversary of Tariq ibn Ziyads crossing of the Straits of Gibraltar, setting into motion the fusion between two worlds. The agenda will tell the vital story of the achievements when Muslims, Christians, and Jews thrived side by side in Western Europe, building a society that lit the Dark Ages. Experts will discuss how to transform education, promote tolerance, political reform, and advance human development so that we can emulate the spirit and triumphs of the early years. Alumni are not going to like this. My grandfather was Class of 36 and I can only imagine what his reaction would have been if he was alive. Can the whole history department be so devoid of knowledge that they bought off on this fecal matter.
Anybody with current knowledge of the school know of any influence to explain this? Maybe a foreign government sending students there and making large donations?
