Dem Strategy: Obama Will Call For Assault Weapons Ban Friday 01-14-2011 9:55am CT
MSNBC political analyst Pat Buchanan and Democratic strategist Mark Penn join Hardball's Chris Matthews to discuss President Barack Obama's address in Arizona.
(VIDEO AT LINK)
Mark Penn also made this little prediction about Obama's need for another Oklahoma City bombing...
Ruger had a "Presidential Election Special" on Mini-14 magazines back when Obama was elected. They were actually reasonably priced!
Mark
He’d like my scoped NM M1A with the standard twenty round mag even less.
How to lose the 2012 Presidential election: Call for an assault weapon ban.
IIRC, the Garand was either not on the list, or specifically exempted. Not sure about the M1A - I think that it was allowed, but not new mags of more than 10-round capacity. Of course, Springfield had made millions of the 20-rounders before the ban took effect, so you got 2 with the rifle (if new in box), and you could buy more (for the highly absurd price of about $50 a pop). I don't think that it will matter much anyhow, as such a proposed ban should not even come up for a vote in the House...and it had better %$%&*(@^ NOT come up for a vote - YOU HEAR THAT, BOEHNER!!!
And “a shoulder-thing that goes up”.
Looks like I know what I’m going to go buy this weekend...
M14 was/is a semi auto...the fully auto was/is M14E2 and that was selective (single/fully auto)...replaced the BAR in '63
This is the third time prior to an attempted assassination that the dems have trotted out the canard that hate speech and hate radio is driving the right wing extremist to violence.
The first two assassination attempts were carried out by al Quada. One in 1995, the second in 2009.
Al Quada threatened Obamas life shortly before the dems began orchestrating the hate speech hate radio leading to violence for this attempt.
If it happens once you can write it off to coincidence.
If it happens twice, it's suspect.
If it happens three times you can pretty much guarantee it's planned.
Furthermore, two of the assicanition attempts have been followed by fertilizer bombs.
First was OKC in1995. The second was the fertilizer bomb in NYC. The left tried to blame on the right wing extremist/TEA Party, and would have succeded in blaming the TEA Party had the bomb gone off.
I also find it hard to believe the coordinated attack on Sarah Palin was spontaneous. If it was spontaneous, the MSM wouldn't have had the exact same talking points about the “RIFLE SIGHTS” used by Palin and ignore the “TARGETS” used by the dems.
You know, I don't get that. If the Tuscon incident had taken place last year and he had jammed this through, then it is a mere political calculation that would balance of the benefits (from his POV, not mine) of passing such legislation vs. the political costs in 2+ years. Now, however, it won't pass (it better not even get a floor vote in the House YOU HEAR THAT, BOEHNER!!!) and he and those who champion it in the Congress will have to deal with the negative fallout from that. Is he, and are his political handlers, really that out-of-touch, that stone deaf, that STOOOOOOPID, as to risk the certainty of bad political fallout on the virtually non-existent chance of passing something that they want, something of pretty dubious value? What do they really think that they would gain by this?
Let's also keep in mind that when the original AWB was passed, the only way to get it passed was with a 10-year sunset provision (hence the restoration of a minimal amount of the gun-related rights that we've lost since 1934). That was with a heavily Dem Congress and a sell-out by Bob Dole (RINO, KS). No such majority exists now even in the Senate, and the House is Republican as we all know.
Oh, and the above is predicated on a mere restoration of the '94 abomination. If they try to make it permanent or, worse yet, try to make it an ACTUAL BAN - with registration, door-to-door collections, jail time, etc., then all bets are off. Maybe I'm being a bit tin-foilish, but perhaps this is the plan? Jam through a bill, and when there's resistance that makes Tuscon look like a fight between kids in a sandbox, declare a national emergency and really clamp down hard, put millions on the Terror Watch List, jail vocal opponents, shut down Fox News, Rush, Hannity, various blogs, FR, etc. If that is the plan, first they will fail, but second, the failure will be an epic fail, similar to that which touched off the War of Northern Aggression 150 years ago. Third, if that is the plan, then whoever proposes it or tries to implement it is crazier than that mass murderer in Tuscon.
Time to buy uppers for my lowers, then!
“M14 was/is a semi auto...the fully auto was/is M14E2 and that was selective (single/fully auto)...replaced the BAR in ‘63”
M14 is select fire; as for the M14E2/M14A1 - it is also a selective fire version of the standard M14 used as a squad automatic weapon. Successor to the short-lived M15 rifle. The developmental model was known as the M14E2. First designated as M14E2 when it was issued in 1963 and redesignated as M14A1 in 1966.
Bottom line: 1) We’re both a little bit wrong; 2) it is highly unlikely that either of us is able to afford to buy one of the few select fire or full auto versions of this rifle that may be on the market. That’s OK, though - accurate fire from a .30 cal. semi-auto rifle is not exactly good for your health if you’re anywhere within about 1,000 yards of it.

Even more than you might suspect. If you reload ammo, then you could consider buying obsolete Russian rimmed 7.62x54 that is fired in the common Moisin-Nagant rifles. That stuff used iron or steel cored bullets as a more plentiful alternative to lead. Use a magnet to verify before buying. The stuff is .30 caliber and the slugs could be pulled to reload into .308 or .30-06 brass. You would have to consider the bullet weight and resistance to rifling as you work up a safe powder load. I doubt you would find published loading data for these, so unless you are a seasoned reloader and understand the issues and potential dangers of working up custom loads, don't try this.
I guess the libs will have their vocal chords removed, that is the only assault weapon they seem to possess.
“door to door” collections will result in a lot of dead folks.
I have a M1A or did before a boating accident...I liked the M14...had to have at least one version of a great battle rifle.
Didn't really like the M16 (rounds not heavy enough IMO), so my civilian version is chambered in 7.62x51 (DPMS)...or was...lost in the same boating accident.
Want to see the Republican Party go the way of the Whigs? Just go ahead and support this, RINOs.
Anybody who votes for this is CRAPPING on their SACRED OATH to uphold the Constitution. "The right to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT be infringed." I swear, if this passes Congress again, there will be CONSEQUENCES this time. If not now, when?
Damn the oathbreakers.
I don’t think an assault ban will pass but I would not put it past Obamao to call for one. It will go badly for him if he does. IMHO.
Regarding Obama, guns, and all standard-capacity magazines:
Hes coming to take them away, Ha-ha!
Hes coming to take them away!
THAT is what Obama meant by the wildly-cheered code words in his Tucson speech: We should be willing to challenge old assumptions in order to lessen the prospects of violence in the future. aka Gun BANS!
