12. AARON GILMORE (National) to the Minister of Energy and Resources: Will the Government be moving to ban the sale of incandescent light bulbs?
Hon GERRY BROWNLEE (Minister of Energy and Resources): I am delighted to inform the House that I have issued firm instructions to the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority to stop its plans to ban the sale of incandescent light bulbs. This Government, in stark contrast to the previous Government and the previous Minister of Energy, David Parker, rejects the idea that the Government knows best and must constantly meddle in the lives of New Zealanders. If people wish to buy incandescent light bulbs, then this Government will not stop them from doing so.
Aaron Gilmore: Why is the Government not going to ban incandescent light bulbs?
Hon GERRY BROWNLEE: There are a number of excellent reasons why we have not moved to ban those light bulbs. The first is that this Government believes that choice not compulsion, and the ability for individuals to make their own decisions about what sorts of lives they want to lead and what contribution they want to make to climate change, is far better than nanny State telling them what to do.
I’m still trying to find the bootlegged smokes.
Just remarket the old light bulbs and personal heating devices. And put a warning on them that says DO NOT USE AS A LIGHT SOURCE.
That should help you get around the laws :-)
should have said...
Just remarket the old light bulbs as personal heating devices.
Will neighbors be reporting each other if they spot a regular old lightbulb at someone’s home?
Yet more reasons why we left California on 12/1/10!
The Left is salivating at the idea of arresting those who attempt to purchase regular bulbs.
But you CAN buy marijuana.
I think we’re living in a bad science fiction novel.
RE: Will neighbors be reporting each other if they spot a regular old lightbulb at someones home?
I believe only SELLING incandescent bulbs will be illegal, not using existing ones.
And at the same time, the Left will quickly excuse “one of their own” for having them, “because they need them” for some reason or another.
Example: Leftist greenies like Algore flying around on a private jet.
CFC bulbs don’t work with dimmers and many photo sensors. I suppose there will be no need to sell those either.
So, they could buy from out of state?
Love it! The slippery-sloped, nanny-statist buzz-phrase moving onto other categories.
When will the masses wake up?
Nanny is long overdue to 'jump the shark'
Put a CFC in a ceiling fan light and the strobe effect will make you fall down.
Stoned is good.
1. Easy to steal from
2. Generally, you’re not spoiling for a revolution
Cons:
1. Hungry all the time (More bread needed)
2. The stoned get fatter (More government health care needed)
I’m suprised they aren’t putting THC in Honeycombs at this point.
How fortunate - the stupidity of the governed - for those who govern.
I just picked up 14 halogen 60 watt (lower power), 1280 Lumen (extremely bright), P38 (for can-lighting downward flood lights), 4,000 hour bulbs for $10 each.
They will pay for themselves with reduced energy usage within about a year compared to the 100 Watters they replaced. The 100 watters were not bright enough to read by. Now, my front room is bright and cheap (over time.)
Just say “No” to the ALGore bulbs. They suck. They take too long to warm up, they buzz, and they cast a horrid color.
I love halogen!
Unbelievable.
What is a watters?
