[ Lie #9 - Food smuggling is a huge problem in America
One of the main sections of S.510 addresses “food smuggling.” Yep — people smuggling food across the country. If you’ve never heard of this problem that’s because it’s not actually a problem.
Not yet anyway.
But there’s a reason why they put this into the bill: Because they’re probably planning on criminalizing fresh produce and then arresting people for transporting broccoli with the “intent to distribute.”
Yep, farmers bringing fresh produce to sell at the weekend farmer’s market could soon be arrested and imprisoned as if they were drug smugglers. Hence the need for the “food smuggling” provisions of S.510.
Soon, we will all have to meet in secret locations just to trade carrots for cash. ]
Yup they put the “food smuggling” part in the bill because they know full well they will need to criminalize the movement of food after the rest of the bill comes into effect.
[ While I normally roll my eyes when people label any corporations evil, I make an exception and wholeheartedly proclaim Monsanto to be damn evil. This is a slap in the face of small farms and all Americans. What else is this @#$^ing congress going to do to us before they’re gone? And I’m not holding much hope for the next batch either. ]
Monsanto isn’t evil because they are a big corporation, they are evil because of their incestuous relationship with the federal government, it is a whole, you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours. They are now a federally “blessed” monopoly.

I’ve been thinking about baking bread again but we do like cheap white bread (yeah, I know). However, lately our only grocery store has been getting theirs in frozen. FROZEN! And it tastes like it’s been frozen for quite some time. Seriously, can they be that stupid? It’s the mainstay of most households here. I don’t know what’s going on with them, but twice during the past month they’ve not gone by their advertized specials and people are starting to ask questions.

It would view American soverienty as the a paramount concern, especially in matters of illegal immigration.
Lastly, it would view spending as something to be limited as taxes inevitably rise as a result, infringing on the liberty and choices of citizens.
I think a party guided by these principles is what America needs.

Add to that the constraint that laws passed in senate house of executive orders have to be no more than 3 pages or 1000 words per bill. Also the bill need to be about one subject at a time and unrelated Ryders on said bill will invalidate the entire bill.
Add that and I think you have a winner.
You think you're mad now, just wait for the serious compromising that will go on in the next two years, in order for the House to slip stuff by the Dem Senate and vindictive DemPrez. Tough times ahead, I think.

I guess Archer Daniels Midland called in all their lobbying chits to intimidate Republicans to go ahead and do this in spite of the people's loud voices all last summer and fall in D.C. and the monstrous landslide we produced east of NV on Nov. 2nd!!!

Every American I know feels EXACTLY the same way Laz! This is just revulsive and if anything, strengthens all arguments against those elected and now serving in government who are/were supposed to represent us, the people.
Every single day we're being hit with another outrageous bill and/or edict by the fascists/marxist/communists who are running America down and out. Nazi Germany and the failed USSR did these things - and failed. The lame duck session is apparently the democrat / RINO compulsory punishment period for voters in retaliation for the November 2010 election results and what will happen to those RINOs and remaining democrats in upcoming elections.
How many FReepers are going to comment during the public comment period of this bill, I wonder.

Obama puts Monsanto lobbyist in charge of food safety
Genetically modified foods are not safe. The only reason they’re in our food supply is because government bureaucrats with ties to industry suppressed or manipulated scientific research and deprived consumers of the information they need to make informed choices about whether or not to eat genetically modified foods.
Now, the Obama Administration is putting two notorious biotech bullies in charge of food safety! Former Monsanto lobbyist Michael Taylor has been appointed as a senior adviser to the Food and Drug Administration Commissioner on food safety. And, rBGH-using dairy farmer and Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff is rumored to be President Obama’s choice for Under-Secretary of Agriculture for Food Safety. Wolfe spearheaded anti-consumer legislation in Pennsylvania that would have taken away the rights of consumers to know whether their milk and dairy products were contaminated with Monsanto’s (now Eli Lilly’s) genetically engineered Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH).
Sunday Surprise: Senate Passes Food Safety Bill :

The food safety bill--S. 510, the Food Safety Modernization Act--which some had given up for dead, was revived late Sunday attached to a shell bill and passed unanimously just before the Senate adjourned for the day.
The bill, with the Tester/Hagan small farm exemption intact, now goes back to the House. The action will likely put the food safety law on President Obama's desk before Christmas.

The food safety bill has had a tortured life. The House passed its version (H.R 2749) in July of 2009 by a vote of 283 to 142. The Senate did not move on its version (S. 510) until last month after a compromise (the Tester/Hagan Amendment) was reached between small farmers, Big Ag and consumer groups. The final vote was 73 to 25.
However, Section 107 of S. 510 contained a fee provision that the House Parliamentarian considered a tax in violation of the "Origination Clause" of the Constitution, which states that the House must initiate revenue measures.
To overcome the Senate's procedural error, the House then appended S. 510 to the "Omnibus Spending Bill," essentially the 2011 budget. That bill was narrowly approved by a 212 to 206 vote, but when the Senate refused to take up the spending bill, the food safety legislation was left hanging -- until Sunday evening.
To get the food safety bill back to the House without the constitutional flaw, the Senate used H.R. 2475 as a vehicle, amending it with the language of S. 510. Ironically, H.R. 2475 was originally a House version of the "cash for clunkers" bill, a shell with just enough life in it for the Senate's purpose. Reid predicted the House will take up the measure Monday night or Tuesday.

Yes- I knew it would come back but I did not expect it quite this soon, This is really a serous problem. I am ready to order the last of my garden seeds for next spring. I just about always plant open pollinated so I can save seed.
It is going to take more than us to beat this thing. We are fighting a well planned ag/chemical coalition that has very deep pockets. Very few seed companies are not owned by Monsanto when you get to digging a bit. Con-Agra is the other problem.
As you know, history has a bad habit of repeating itself - particularly on those who fail to learn from it.
