WASHINGTON -- In a landmark vote, the Senate on Saturday ended the Clinton-era ban on gays serving openly in the military, marking a major triumph for President Obama, liberals and the gay community.
The final vote to end the Pentagon's 1993 "don't ask, don't tell" policy was 65-31, drawing support from eight Republicans.
The bill now goes to the White House for Obama's signature. He is expected to sign the bill into law next week, a senior White House aide told Fox News.
I am curious -if you do not know the answer maybe anyone reading this can answer?
We see now the States challenging The Federal as far as the health care reform garbage. Can the States as well challenge this nonsense e.g. Do the States set their own eligibility, policy and conduct requirements for the national guard units?
Yep.
Thanks for that information. From what I heard on the news they said this could take years.
Well, technically they [Congress] do, and therein lies the problem. I agree that this vote is unfortunate to say the least.
If you're looking for silver linings, it will take a considerable amount of time to implement this. That means it's still theoretically possible to reverse it. Tough, though. Once you let the cat out of the closet, as it were, facts on the ground start becoming hard to roll back.
You haven’t read the Tea Party Quadrennial Report...eh?
It’s a whole new ballgame for the military in the good ole US of A.
Massive Overhwhelming destructive force must be used in all war theaters of military operation.
The Cold War ended twenty years ago...time to drawdown troops from Germany and South Korea.
We need a future President of the United States with the COJONES, if necessary, to sign the order to get the men in the silos with the little brass keys to turn ‘em on and nuke Islamabad,Pakistan if it is deemed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff that IT IS IN THE DIRECT NATIONAL SECURITY INTERESTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO DO SO.
Now...which of the prospective Republican Presidential candidates can briddle that saddle?
And one final note, the United States Military is not a social science ‘laboratory’ for aging Leftists to tinker with...thank you very much...
All cases of Sodomy or Adultery will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the United States Military Code of Justice.
Carry On...
You’re welcome. I just found out there is a sixty day minimum waiting period before anything can be done, even IF the DoD signs off on it. A lot can happen in sixty days. Obama’s approval #s are sinking like a rock through water. If we keep the heat on our senators, who knows? Maybe it will never be implemented at all.
Since Inauguration day 1989 there has been an ongoing and deliberate effort from every POTUS and most members of both houses to demoralize and destroy our military. The next time our so called leaders want a military response to a conflict Draft only Gays and then put Barney Frank as their Field Commander.
As a two branch of services Vet I would discourage anyone at this point from joining the United States Armed Forces. I could not in good conscience encourage someone to enlist under current terms or our national leadership.
It’s unfortunate that the lame duck congress managed to sneak this through, but at least it wasn’t another TARP. I’m more concerned about the economic legislation than gays.
In the bigger scheme of things I just can’t bring myself to care enough about homosexuals one way or another. Gays don’t affect me. Economic stimulus does.
Well I most certainly will call this particular smoker evil:
On the other hand, this guy makes me want to light up a Marlboro and, like you, I don't even smoke:
Wonder how Hussein will stage the signing ceremony? Will Lady Gaga participate?
... you have a society that is doing everything possible to destroy its own children.Yes, the ones that slip by being aborted, need to be destroyed (or their morale attacked) in one way or another, according to the devil, and what better way than through the forced acceptance of the homosexual (hence, his perverse lifestyle?) in a closed setting, that has numbers, numbers, however, the ultimate weapon for battling the gay lifestyle (not the person himself) is very much available to anyone courageous (and man enough) to use it. "The Rosary Is Not For Wimps"; It Is A Lethal Weapon In Combat!
Ensign outta consider not running. We’d probably have a better chance if that seat is open.
Indeed Princess Lisa’s shackles are off. Alaska Republicans should eject the de facto third party Pork/Abortion Liberals. They have as big a problem as Illinois does with the combine.
...and only 14,000 new unemployed gays lose their jobs! Most democrat laws create unemployment....what century will the dims figure it out! Tis the season!
The rule of “Unintended Consequences” has just been given full steam!
Watch the lawsuits spring up from this further paralyzing the military.
This is the main intention.
Communists = Democrats
The states could create their own military establishments, independent of the national guard. Then create a unified command ala NATO, thus creating a nation-wide military independent of Washington’s.
“I wonder if America needs a Pinochet to straighten things out?
The world’s greatest intellectual, Thomas Sowell, Ph.d, warned that there may come a day when the American military just won’t take it anymore.”
The Roman Emperor Caligula was assassinated in 37 A.D. by the commanding officer of his own Praetorian Guard just after Caligula changed the password for all Roman soldiers stationed anywhere in the Empire to, “Kiss me!” which implied all Roman troops were homosexuals.
Every organization has a breaking point.
So the solution is to bring in a Democrat instead of this RINO? A true conservative isn’t going to win in Massachusetts.
They do not exist in the Northeast. Even if they state they are Conservative, they are usually not as Conservative as their counterparts in the South and more conservative parts of this country.
