The following is an official statement by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio regarding today’s lawsuit filed against his office by the U.S. Justice Department in Washington, D.C. for alleged refusal to turn over documents. It is followed by another statement from his Washington, D.C. attorney, Bob Driscoll.
“The Obama administration has filed three lawsuits against Arizona in the last few weeks ... one against a college district, one against the state of Arizona and now one against my office. Each lawsuit centers on something to do with alleged racial discrimination.
These actions make it abundantly clear that Arizona, including this Sheriff, IS Washington’s new whipping boy. Now it’s time to take the gloves off.
As for today’s lawsuit against my office: These people in Washington met with my attorneys only a few days ago. And in that meeting, Washington got our cooperation; they admitted they already have thousands of pages of the requested documents; and they were given access to interview my staff and get into my jails.
They smiled in our faces and then stabbed us in the back with this lawsuit. The Obama administration intended to sue us all along, no matter what we did to try to avert it. Washington isn’t playing fair and it’s time Americans everywhere wake up and see this administration for what it really is. Calculating, underhanded at times and certainly not looking out for the best interests of the legal citizens residing in this country. “

COUNSEL TO SHERIFF JOSEPH ARPAIO AND THE MARICOPA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
“Today’s lawsuit by the Department of Justice is part of a deliberate media strategy to “get tough” on Sheriff Arpaio and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and undermine immigration enforcement by a local Sheriff who is trying desperately to make up for this Administration’s own indifference to the topic.
The DOJ suit speaks loudly by what it does not say. It does not allege that Sheriff Arpaio or the MCSO have discriminated against anyone because the DOJ, after 18 months of soliciting allegations against Sheriff Arpaio, has come up empty. Even the purported basis for the suit, which alleges a lack of “cooperation,” is a sham. In fact, after meeting with the DOJ last week, just last Friday, on behalf of MCSO, I informed the DOJ that MCSO would cooperate with all reasonable document requests and would schedule tours of MCSO facilities and interviews with senior MCSO command staff. We were awaiting a response from DOJ, and this lawsuit is apparently it. Clearly DOJ is more interested filing its third lawsuit in as many weeks against Arizona defendants than in looking into the allegations that purportedly gave rise to its investigation. This lawsuit is nothing more than an attempt to obscure the fact that DOJ still has no case. Today’s suit over documents does not change that.”

Joe’s Civil rights are being infringed by the DoJ. He bared his operation to them, and in exchange they are trying to ptevent his enforcement of the law as due process under the 14th amendment.
Joe has the perfect opportunity to counter sue.
I hope he puts a drubbing on the DoJ. They are asking for it.

in retrospect, it is very possible this was just in response to reserve fund’s devaluation of par after lehman failed.
So, we are in agreement that Koresh was a criminal (pedophile) in need of arresting and that Sheriff Joe is not.
That's the only point I'm making.
Secondly, few people understand that local Sheriffs are the safe guards against the federal government in seizure cases. The feds had to depend on Sheriffs to show them the locations and accesses to their defendants. This is especiallly true of the IRS. Its one of the reasons that the
pre-census of 2009 took the GPS coordinates of every citizens home. Now they do not need to depend on cooperation with Sheriffs, who often refused to act or inform the feds about what they wanted to know , unless there was a search warrant issued by a court of competent jurisdiction.

for the feds to do an end run around local sheriffs.IMHO sheriffs across our country do not like Obama one bit. Sherrifs along the border are being sued by the feds for arresting illegal aliens and interdicting drug transport,
under the pretense of civil rights law.
It would not surprise me one bit if sheriffs all across the country rise in support of Joe.
I'm not saying that the raid was conducted properly (although I do believe the fire was started by Koresh's groupies), but he was a scumbag criminal.
If so, why would the fed do everthing in its power to esist and audit? The public has no idea what happened even now, its all mere speculation, and we do not even know if they have applied safe guards from it happening againn. If it does, the US dollar will no longer be the world's reserve currency, and our standard of living will devolve by some 15 per cent. I am sick of all the secrey surrounding the Obama administration. It allows for manipulation and thuggery which has no place in governing America.The people are purposeful victims of their own government, as this law suit against Sheriff Arpaio indicates.It signals that it is the people versus the feds , and it is demographic warfare which is intolerable. We cannot be rid of this administration soon enough.The nation is developinga distinct distaste foir all fedearl workers and for fedear authority. I feel unclean even aafter I go into a post office these days.

Janet Reno, the top federal agents and military officers involved should be tried and sentenced to death if convicted. Janet Reno said she took full responsibility...there is no statute of limitations on murder.
In the documentary "Waco: Rules of Engagement", the sheriff (I think) of Waco said that they could find no legal evidence that Koresh was guilty of this. Paraphrasing, he did say that in Texas it's legal for 14 year olds to get married with their parents consent and if he did have sex with 14 year olds it would fall under this category. I don't condone it, but the law is the law.

My whole point, which is completely lost on many ardent Freepers, is that Koresh was the central, messianic figure of a cult who's questionable doctrines included polygamy and child marriage. Sheriff Joe is nowhere in this same category.
At the time of the tragedy, I was a cop, and was appalled that police officers attempting to execute a search warrant were gunned down. The questionable facets of the search warrant and the evidence used to obtain it are beside the point - these officers were operating in good faith.
