The following is an official statement by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio regarding todays lawsuit filed against his office by the U.S. Justice Department in Washington, D.C. for alleged refusal to turn over documents. It is followed by another statement from his Washington, D.C. attorney, Bob Driscoll.
The Obama administration has filed three lawsuits against Arizona in the last few weeks ... one against a college district, one against the state of Arizona and now one against my office. Each lawsuit centers on something to do with alleged racial discrimination.
These actions make it abundantly clear that Arizona, including this Sheriff, IS Washingtons new whipping boy. Now its time to take the gloves off.
As for todays lawsuit against my office: These people in Washington met with my attorneys only a few days ago. And in that meeting, Washington got our cooperation; they admitted they already have thousands of pages of the requested documents; and they were given access to interview my staff and get into my jails.
They smiled in our faces and then stabbed us in the back with this lawsuit. The Obama administration intended to sue us all along, no matter what we did to try to avert it. Washington isnt playing fair and its time Americans everywhere wake up and see this administration for what it really is. Calculating, underhanded at times and certainly not looking out for the best interests of the legal citizens residing in this country.
STATEMENT OF ROBERT N. DRISCOLL,
COUNSEL TO SHERIFF JOSEPH ARPAIO AND THE MARICOPA COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE
Todays lawsuit by the Department of Justice is part of a deliberate media strategy to get tough on Sheriff Arpaio and the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office and undermine immigration enforcement by a local Sheriff who is trying desperately to make up for this Administrations own indifference to the topic.
The DOJ suit speaks loudly by what it does not say. It does not allege that Sheriff Arpaio or the MCSO have discriminated against anyone because the DOJ, after 18 months of soliciting allegations against Sheriff Arpaio, has come up empty. Even the purported basis for the suit, which alleges a lack of cooperation, is a sham. In fact, after meeting with the DOJ last week, just last Friday, on behalf of MCSO, I informed the DOJ that MCSO would cooperate with all reasonable document requests and would schedule tours of MCSO facilities and interviews with senior MCSO command staff. We were awaiting a response from DOJ, and this lawsuit is apparently it. Clearly DOJ is more interested filing its third lawsuit in as many weeks against Arizona defendants than in looking into the allegations that purportedly gave rise to its investigation. This lawsuit is nothing more than an attempt to obscure the fact that DOJ still has no case. Todays suit over documents does not change that.

>>I keep thinking Waco, but I hope it doesnt get that bad!!

>Only, in Waco, the compound leader did not completely have the moral high ground - not really. He was a sexual abuser of children; a fact that is undeniable.
I don’t know about that. With the “flexibility” of words and their meanings {1984’s Newspeak quackworthy is a good example} you can do a lot of damage; it has all the actual effect of re-defining the words.
A recent bill/law involving illegal immigrants and their “children” had “children” defined as something like “aged 26 and below.”
The common-language of ‘pedophile’ is “someone who has sexual intercourse with children.”
So, you could combine the two to make everyone who has a spouse 26 and below into pedophiles/sexual-predators/”sexual abusers of children.”
But even so, does a violation of the law negate/invalidate the protection offered by the law in some other area?
Before answering ‘yes’ consider that the legal protection against, say, the police taking all the money from your wallet (4th Amendment) would cease to exist for even a jaywalker.
>Sheriff Joe’s cause, on the other hand, is unimpeachable.
Agreed.
>I know you know his records are sealed, and untouchable. Heck, judge after judge has confirmed this. Our rule of law has been deleted. File not found. Error 404.
Interestingly enough 404 would be the punnish way to write “0 is the middle/heart of 44”...
The probelm I see is that the courts will enable this behavior until there is no more role for the courts in our society.
Obama selectively chooses which laws he will or will not obey.
So, logically, the States, Counties, Cities, and individuals should follow our President’s example and also choose to obey or not obey laws, as they wish.
Good for the gander, good for the goose.
Our current Government does not operate according to our Constitution...it exists like a marriage document to this current administration where only one of the parties deems it significant and binding. ‘We the people’ see it as binding...they do not. Rather they seek to destroy it and are currently doing just that.
Obama has shown he would be much more comfortable with a North Korean other tyrannical form of government where he would not have to waste his time and energy pretending he cares for the little people.
Obama’s advisor: Sire, the people have no bread and are starving.
Obama: Let them eat cake.
Is anybody else mentally writing the history books of the future? “Attempt to Put Sharia-Promoting Mosque at Groud Zero Pushes Americans into Sensing the Danger and Stopping the Era of ‘Tolerance’” “The Forces Behind Arizona’s Secession from the Union” “The Restoration Era”
Hell, I want to go by every station and buy all those officers some pizzas if I could.
Another good one Candor LOL.
You know I thought the Bush election was like nothing I had seen before with the Florida count etc. Then this election with BO out did even that...What were people thinking!
Then I realized it is no longer about the peoples vote nor their concerns it is all about the politicians desires for power and how they will operate and assume that power and retain it once elected...they’re in their own world very much independant of the people and operating as such until they need your vote for the next election.
It’s like Washington has become the “Palace” for these Kings and Queens and their court... and we are the peons working the fields to support them.
Take away the secrecy (Obama administration) and you take away their power.
Arizona is a conservative state, but then again we have a HUGE number of hispanics in the metro area. Sheriff Joe is well liked and seems to be in good shape for his next election which is 2012 I believe.
Governor Brewer on the other hand is not as conservative as she appears. She is using the SB 1070 issue to her advantage as she is in a race this election and it is helping her get the conservative vote.
