Is this the same rig?

Yes early reports didn’t have the depth correct as I understand it. The 340’ is correct.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_gulf_rig_explosion

The platform is in about 340 feet of water and about 100 miles south of Louisiana’s Vermilion Bay. It’s location is considered shallow water, much less than the approximately 5,000 feet where BP’s well spewed oil and gas for three months after the April rig explosion.

The rig is a fixed platform that was in production at the time of the fire, according to a homeland security operational update obtained by The Associated Press.

The update said the platform was producing 58,800 gallons of oil and 900,000 cubic feet of gas per day. The platform can store 4,200 gallons of oil.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Mariner Energy officials told him there were seven active production wells on the platform, and they were shut down shortly after the fire broke out.

The BP oil spill was nothing too.

The mainstream media are Maxist/liberal liars.

I have an idea. How about we find out what caused this explosion before we start all the hare-brained speculating?

Ya, right. And what do we know now that we didn't know 4 months ago about the Deepwater Horizon?

This chart here shows only 2 explosions on a GOM platform in the last 4 years that caused damage greater than $1mil. The way this is sounding we're about ready to have our second one in 4 months. You may find it "hare-brained" but I find it more than interesting. Notice that this is different than the chart you first posted that showed all incidents on GOM platforms from explosions and fires to pissing over the side and knocking out a dolphin. Of course when you lump all your data into a single pile, it's makes it easy to whine that nothing out of the ordinary is going on.

And you were referring to "blowouts" happening all of the time. Are you saying that "blowouts" and "explosions" are one and the same?

How many times do I have to post this data? It’s been twice already.

From 2000 through so far, 948 explosions and/or fires in the Gulf, averaging 105 a year.

Okay, thanks. Perhaps you’re right. This was certainly our worst as I understand it. I’m thinking Ixtoc 1 was probably the Mexican blowout? Is that correct?

Yea I think what’s curious here is why the drivebys are focusing in on something like this which is fairly commonplace. Smells like a pile of Rahm

The liberal mainstream media has all of you replying to this like it was something.

It is Nothing as was the BP “oil spill”. Where is the BP oil spill now? Where are the oil covered gulf coast beaches? Nowhere because the beaches , the Ocean , the Gulf , everyting is as it was before this BP “oil spill”.

The liberal media lies. they are the enemy. When will you “conservatives” get it?

You need to go back to the data and determine how many major explosions and how many “incidentals”?

Got it?

First report is erroneous. The lease depth is officially 319 feet.

Thanks. I should have continued to read more replies before asking you that question. I saw it answered in other replies.

Today’s incident is only “hugely major” if one knows nothing about the industry.

Our rigs are being sabotaged! What other eexplanation?????

If this rig is THE ATLANTIS, then there is a better explanation.

The ATLANTIS was said to be in much worse shape than the DEEPWATER HORIZON. The equipment is severely out of repair, and the whole thing is 'ready' to suffer some kind of major catastrophe.

btw, BP owns THE ATLANTIS.

If this is not THE ATLANTIS, it may not matter. There may be many old rigs in the GOM and we may see more of this as time goes on.

No, I’m not, and you will notice that I corrected my first data post.

Also, I haven’t posted any charts. I’m not sure who you’re referring to, but it wasn’t me.

I’m not the only one who possesses the data. You can find it yourself and massage it if you so desire.

Also, as Allegra astutely pointed out upthread, we Texans do not take kindly to being told what we “need to” do, except by our mamas.

you also need to present your data with a TPS cover sheet, got it? That’ll be great....

Thanks. I’d seen various replies with Willie http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2582137/posts?page=119#119 claiming it was in about 2,500 feet of water.

A leftist says I’m going to relax drilling. Then the worst oil spill on record takes place, and he’s pleased as punch to take advantage of it. He tries to put a moratorium on drilling because it’s just too deep down there, then extends $2 billion in loan guarantees to PetroBras for drilling in waters three times as deep. This is bound to cause some folks to scratch their heads.

Sounds like a reasonable thought process to me.
