WWL-TV in New Orleans has confirmed the Coast Guard is responding to a rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico.
Dozens are reported injured.
According to the Coast Guard, it happened 80 miles south of Grand Isle.
Rescue choppers from New Orleans and Houston are responding.
The injured will be taken to hospitals in various coastal areas from Houston to the Louisiana/Mississippi border area.
“Our nation is under attack. Our rigs are being sabotaged! What other explanation?????”
“”I agree. When the first 9/11 plane hit the tower, I thought it was a terrible accident. When it happened again to the second tower, I knew different.””
PING!! (just got back in town and wanted to ping you guys to this news..btw..thanks for keeping me pinged while away..lots to catch up on)
Prayers Up for no oil leak. All persons accounted for according to reports. This smells like eco nut/Obama Administration sabotage to me.
How does a rig that is not actively producing just blow up? And why do they have people working on it if it is not producing?
I wonder if they were planning to move it?
2. Demand all oil production in the gulf stop (despite their losses in court)
3. Blame the Bush administration and the Republicans for all damage
"
4. Cancel November 2010 elections.
I haven’t read the thread but does anyone know?
Is this a drilling rig or a production platform?
Especially when it almost never happens. When was the last time an oil rig blew up before last, when was it, March?
I think you are right! Something MIGHTY suspicious in 2 explosions so close together—was it another BP well???
Prayers going up for the innocents involved in this!
oh thank you for posting who owns this...
Vermilion Oil Rig 380, is owned by Mariner Energy

Just over 300 feet, so not deep water. (The April explosion was at a depth of just over 4,500 feet.)
Yep...with the co-op of others I won't mention.
He DOES look REALLY bad. Noticed pics from the address the other night. Angry and gaunt.

Explosion on Gulf of Mexico rig
An explosion has torn through an offshore oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, west of the site of the blast in April that caused a huge oil spill.
The blast, which threw 13 people into the water, was reported by a commercial helicopter company about 0930 local time (1330 GMT), Coast Guard Petty Officer Casey Ranel said.
It is unclear if the structure is a production platform or a drilling rig.
Seven helicopters, two airplanes and four boats are en route to the site.
The blast occurred around 130km (80 miles) south of Vermilion Bay along the central Louisiana coast.
All 13 workers who fell into the Gulf are accounted for, the Coastguard said.
Mr Ranel said smoke was reported but it is unclear whether the rig is still burning.
CNN: “Explosion and fire. Still burning.”
I have an idea. How about we find out what caused this explosion before we start all the hare-brained speculating?
Sabotage is a big part of KGB operations, and Castro’s Cuba was well trained by the KGB before Castro threw out the Russians. Venezuela is probably being KGB trained, too.
Whatever, the likely suspects are American hating communists.
As for the cause, I'm not saying anything for sure ... I just don't like "coincidences".

A commercial helicopter company reported the blast around 9:30 a.m. CDT Thursday, Coast Guard Petty Officer Casey Ranel said. Seven helicopters, two airplanes and four boats were en route to the site, about 80 miles south of Vermilion Bay along the central Louisiana coast.
The Coast Guard said initial reports indicated all 13 crew members from the rig were in the water. One was injured, but there were no deaths.
The platform owned by Mariner Energy is in about 2,500 feet of water, the Coast Guard said, and was not currently producing.
Correction: Mariner Energy.
Reports keep saying rig.
But with reporters now days, who knows.
Fox says they are calling it “an offshore petroleum structure.”
