This bill was considered in committee which has recommended it be considered by the Senate as a whole. Although it has been placed on a calendar of business, the order in which legislation is considered and voted on is determined by the majority party leadership. Keep in mind that sometimes the text of one bill is incorporated into another bill, and in those cases the original bill, as it would appear here, would seem to be abandoned.

You are absolutely correct!
HR 2749
FDA - that is headed by former VP of Monsanto will take charge.
Oh, remember Monsanto? Think Genetically Modified Food - Dioxin - Agent Orange, etc.
Don’t raise it here - Import it from China... Grrrrrrr
IF you have seen “The Future of Food,” (It’s on Hulu, I watched this morning), as another freeper pointed out, it lists about a DOZEN FedGov officials connected to Monsanto, some that have bounced back and forth between Monsanto and Gov posts.
Thank you so much for the URL’s! I’ll go look to see how it’s been voted for in my state now. Accountability is so important right now, so we can try and vote out our tyrants first, if there’s any chance of it left. Thanks again!
You are very welcome. I was looking for something in a comparative analysis that could be used to stop the reconcilliation, just in case we can't stop the Senate.
I found out that the Two Pubs in our state voted “Nay” and the one Dem voted aye. I guess I should have figured that it would be the case. It’s an overwhelmingly partisan vote. Thanks for your work. I hope no one crosses over, but doubt a senate defeat would stop them from slipping it in somewhere else, anyway. I fear that at this point, we can only pray, prepare, and pass on what we know to get others to do the same. Thanks!
>>>If you’re not manufacturing, processing, packing, distributing, receiving, holding, or importing an article of food, you’ll be fine. You can stop panicking now.<<<
Well, not quite - Under it, FDA can confiscate all food - including stocks of food - even on a regional basis - at their discretion.
PLUS, do you know that in almost every state it is illegal to give, sell or convey a plant to anyone - without an inspection and license... Yep... They came out with ‘Model Legislation’ and states are pushed into it or they lose federal funding - including my own.
It is illegal for me to grow tomato plants and give them to my two grown daughters - Unless - I apply for a permit and have them perform an inspection... Same with seeds.
One gigantic melofahess!
There were 54 crossovers in the House. I think if we look at the senators who voted for TARP and Hellthcare, we'll find our potential senatorial crossovers.
>>>Snowe, Graham, Collins and Brown crossed the aisle today....<<<
You mean they voted for a Republican supported bill for a change?
Exactly. He's just a dork with a bushel full of red herrings he runs around throwing at everybody. It is obvious from other postings that he has lost all credibility here.
>>>DOZEN FedGov officials connected to Monsanto, some that have bounced back and forth between Monsanto and Gov posts.<<<
Believe me, I know! I have been harping on this for over a year till people were sick of hearing it. But nobody wanted to do anything to try to stop it.
The Great Nostriled one Waxman was an author of HR 2749! (The Safe Food Legislation)
The goal that he has declared is to impose the now voluntary guidelines from So. California into National Law - small farm - forget it - common sense - forget it!
Under the ‘Model’ you are required to maintain a ‘boundary’ around any field growing food - devoid of grass, weeds or any wildlife - If a deer meanders across your melon patch, you have to destroy a 50’ wide path where it traveled. Absolutely NO children are allowed in the area (they might not be potty trained I guess) - plus a whole bunch of garbage control issues..
How many small farms can maintain a border that reduces a 40 acre field to about 10.
Can’t we just give Calif. to Mexico and make them live by their laws? Waxman with it!!!
“Cant we just give Calif. to Mexico and make them live by their laws? Waxman with it!!!”
We may end up getting that in just a few short years.
I had no idea about those provisions of laws. Can you point me to any good sources to read more on this topic of discussion? I was disturbed when I discovered farmer’s markets (at least in my state) could no longer sell prepared foods that weren’t prepared in commercial kitchens. Nor at community bake sales, garage sales, street slaes, etc. It has to be done on the down low. Sheesh!
If this company is endangering the lives of animals, wont that be against the law? /
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Depends on if they are being cruel while feeding the world?/s
Absolutely on the farmers markets, bake sales, home made buns, rolls, candy, cookies, etc.
You can do them in your home, but no pets, no open windows - even with screens - restroom must be within so many feet, water temperature must be a certain temp for hand washing, utensils must be inspected and you must pay for the inspection as well as a fee.
Their response was to build (with a federal grant) a commercial kitchen at one of the colleges - you have to register for the days you need to use it, pay the fees, pay for them to sterilize it after use, etc. Then you can bake a few of your loaves of bread or cookies to sell - then they must be handled and sold in approved conditions - a bake sale table does not meet the requirements.
Baking a cake for a church dinner too is a big no-no. As is mom baking a wedding cake for daughter - niece, etc.
Yet, Chinese prawns can be raised in untreated sewage, be moved for a week to clean water and sold here all day long! Local orchards who may not have the license cannot sell cider, but former White Hall Apple Juice is being imported from China - tastes like crap (I wrote them and told them so) - they buy it because the local inspections kill them - but they don’t have that in China.
As a test, go to the local large grocery store and start checking country of origin on seafood. Sickening (in more ways than one) I have a neighbor who raises Tilapia in controlled environment buildings. Can’t sell it or process it here - he has to sell it to Canada where they process and package and sell it back to our local stores.
As you saw on this thread, they are pushing to where all of a sudden there are going to be rubber bands breaking left and right. (those rubber bands are going to be people snapping). It’s not going to be pretty.
All I can advise is prepare - grow, process and store at least a years food - prepare for multiple redundancies for anything essential - I can heat with Coal, wood, pellets, propane or kerosene. Try to keep adequate stocks of each.
Acre and a half garden and can about 80 cases a year plus freeze and dehydrate too. Raise chickens and have some as layers - raise 90% of their feed.
Just remember - It is better to be prepared a year too early than a day too late.
I get so PO’d that I’d like to wring some necks myself...
