Son of Pilot Who Dropped A-Bomb Opposes Plan to Send U.S. Delegation to Hiroshima Ceremony

EXCLUSIVE:  The son of the U.S. Air Force pilot who dropped the first atomic bomb in the history of warfare says the Obama administration's decision to send a U.S. delegation to a ceremony in Japan to mark the 65th anniversary of the attack on Hiroshima is an "unsaid apology" and appears to be an attempt to "rewrite history."

James Tibbets, son of Brig. Gen. Paul W. Tibbets, Jr., says Friday's visit to Hiroshima by U.S. Ambassador John Roos is an act of contrition that his late father would never have approved.

"It's an unsaid apology," Tibbets, 66, told FoxNews.com from his home in Georgiana, Ala. "Why wouldn't it be?  Why would [Roos] go? It doesn't make any sense.

"I know it's the anniversary, but I don't know what the hell they're trying to do. It needs to be left alone. The war is over."

My Father would have likely been one of those sent in with any invasion force. I sometimes wonder if he would have survived an assault on Japan.

Thanks to men like Tibbets, my Father and thousands of other like him lived to go on with their lives and build their families.

I know that my dad and the rest of the 94th ID was in the process of getting ready to head to the Pacific theater when they got word of Hiroshima.

Hubby's Dad was scheduled to be shipped over in November of that year. He and all the men who were scheduled to be sent had no illusions about what would happen when they arrived on the Japanese mainland. They knew that not only would many of THEM be killed, but many civilians would be, as well.

I recently sailed past battleship row on Ford Island on a carrier and in passing, the Captain announced our passage and all hands on deck saluted and there was complete silence as we went by.

I was impressed about the level of recognition for our sacrifice at Pearl Harbor, and really impressed at how automatic the response was from all hands without prompting.

That's his opinion. I look at it as our country honoring the deaths of our once enemy and now strongest ally for actions that were warranted in order to restore peace to this planet.

After all that we've been told about nuclear warfare, I find it ironic that both Hiroshima and Nagasaki have been able to rise above the nuclear rubble and build a sprawling metropolis while our own major cities such as Detroit have decayed into rubble........

Are you out of your mind? The Japs own most of Hawaii. Also, every time I’ve been to the Pearl Harbor memorial there are as many of more Jap nationals there than everyone else put together. Its a very popular holiday destination for them.

Yesterday, we presented a resolution honoring the award of a very belated bronze star to an infantryman who had been in the battle of Okinawa (Ryukyu) The allies suffered more than 50,000 casualties in that battle and Japan saw more than 100,000. Some have estimated that more than a million people would have been killed if the allies had continued their plans to invade Japan in order to finaly end the war. Instead, the bombs were dropped weeks after. Just gives a bit of perspective.

Damn straight! They thought was without their false god the emperor they would fight forever. I was watching History Channel and they covered the entire thought process about the bomb. The bottom line was that the jap government wasn’t so sure the people would even stop fighting. It took our bombs to convince the emperor to make his speech and there were still military officers trying to stop the speech and continue the fighting. Anyone saying the japs were near defeat doesn’t know the whole story.
