“if the Japanese High Command had been in possession of their own A-bomb, how long do you think they would have hesitated before using it against U.S. military and civilian personnel?”
Excellent question. First time I can recall it. They would have used it immediately. So would the Germans. It is war. This is why we try to be civilized and avoid war.
From Rush’s song “Manhattan Project”:
“Imagine a time when it all began
In the dying days of a war
A weapon that would settle the score
Whoever found it first would be sure to do their worst —
They always had before...
Imagine a man when it all began
The pilot of `Enola Gay`
Flying out of the shockwave on that August day
All the powers that be, and the course of history,
Would be changed for evermore.”
Thank God that we developed it first.
