BEND, Ore. -- It was a time of mourning for a few dozen people who gathered at Bend's Drake Park Thursday evening for a memorial to honor 109 Canada geese that were euthanized last week.
Those in attendance expressed their feelings, observed a moment of silence for their surviving companions and families, and discussed ideas of how to prevent this from happening again.
Organizers arranged the memorial event with the intention of "bonding together to promote proven methods of non-lethal methods of goose control."

These sick freaks addle the eggs of geese in the Spring, so they spend months tending a nest that will never be blessed with chicks. For some reason, they think this is less cruel than culling the flock from time to time.
News flash, morons... Wild animals live to reproduce. They live to rear their young. They derive no satisfaction from living an affluent lifestyle and spending all day reading the Sunday Times in their trendy DINK nests. A ten-year-old goose who has never reproduced has got to be about the most pathetic thing in the World.
Or they just love abortion so much more than they even like geese that they can't resist a goose abortion when the opportunity presents itself.
I wonder if they asked KFC to cater the event.
I did not enjoy it.
It was unprovoked (really), the goose swam out to my boat - quickly - and grabbed my life preserver. A bit disquieting, and it took a bit to scare it away.
I have had a much easier time shooing away a grizzly here at my house, and even on two BIG Alaska Brown bears on Bristol Bay.
I have no fear of the Bald Eagles or Golden Eagles (bigger) in my neighborhood.
I don't want to have another encounter with a goose, though.
I just hope they had to walk through a lot of goose crap on their way...it’s the only thing that Canadian Geese contribute to the environment.

The black one with the deranged look decided to do a little freelance Canada hunting last week. I managed to whistle her off a full grown gander that she surprised hiding in some weeds down by the river and ran into the water. She swims like a torpedo boat, and she was nibbling on his tail feathers until I talked her into breaking off pursuit (with the assistance of the TriTronics collar . . . don't leave home without it!)
