Rumors of a Coup
american thinker ^ | jr dunn

We've been hearing a lot of comments recently about a national coup d'etat scheduled for sometime in late summer or early fall and designed to circumvent the coming Democrat debacle in the 2010 elections.

This is an example of political gothic of a type that I tend to overlook. But my interest was piqued by the fact that it has been mentioned several dozen times in the comment threads of essays of mine in recent weeks. I've had a little difficulty grasping exactly how such a thing would work, so I've spent the last few days puzzling it out.

The contention is that at some point before the upcoming November elections, an "incident" of some violent but unknown nature will occur that will provide Obama with the opportunity to declare "martial law" across the country, which will involve the "cancellation" or "postponement" of the elections. This will enable the Obama dictatorship to take off its humanist mask and put its true agenda into play, part of which involves sending JRD up to Prudhoe Bay to feed moss to the caribou for the next ten years.

Breaking this thesis into its component parts, we find

If Congress declares martial law - and this democratic Congress could easily do that - then the president can legally issue orders to enforce that martial law.

There would be nothing illegal about it.

So you’re saying that droves of military people would disobey the orders lawfully given through the chain of command to do what is lawful during martial law?

Because that is what it would mean. The legality of the orders cannot be questioned. That’s what the military is telling Lt Col Lakin, based on what they told Michael New before that. Whether or not you agree with Lakin or New on the legality of the orders, make no mistake that the military decisions were that THE LEGALITY OF THE ORDERS COULD NOT BE QUESTIONED.

Every military man and woman needs to be soul-searching right now, because the military leadership has made it abundantly clear that the military will NEVER go against a president’s orders. They have no mechanism that would ever allow the legality of the orders to even be BROUGHT UP IN A LEGITIMATE PROCEEDING.

Glenn Beck pointed out one thing that has changed a great deal in America.

He pointed out that the radical marxists who drove Obama and the democrats to power are at the most powerfull they’ve ever been in America and they realize it isn’t going to last. The people that are heckling democrats are demanding that the democrats sieze total power or else.

I remember people around here speculating on that at the end of the Clinton administration. And no doubt many liberals were conviced that would happen at the end of the Bush administration. Now it's back to speculating about it during an Obama administration, and no doubt it will occur again at the end of the next Republican one. Some things never change.

What we did see, however, was the rats stonewalling every effort of the newly elected President Bush to establish his team at the White House. Months of delay due to the rats attempting to steal an election, delays on establishing his cabinet, delays on necessary funds to implement said staff and finally, vandalism of resources, costing US taxpayers millions of dollars. This went on for at least 8 months following his election, and then the constant persecution continued throughout his Presidency.

It was treason, and should have been dealt with as such.

Perhaps next time, it will be.

I am disappointed in The American Thinker. I have found many of their articles thoughtful and well written. This stuff is just crap.

...A word on the matter of competence: Obama is slowly being stripped of any reputation for ability he may have accrued during his political career. The Deepwater Horizon blowout, the Korea crisis, Iran, Sestak...Commandant Zero is being revealed as the most inept president on record. This is in no way hyperbole; it is a sober evaluation of the record as it exists. Fillmore, Buchanan, and even Carter are simply not in the running here. As a schlemiel, Obama stands in a class by himself, a man who not only can't solve problems, but can't recognize them when they appear..."

The Reichstag fire was an arson attack on the Reichstag building (then the seat of German government) in Berlin, February 27, 1933. The event is seen as pivotal in allowing Hitler to establish Naziism as the new government in Germany.

HISTORY Hitler had been sworn in as Chancellor and head of the coalition government on 31 January 1933. As Chancellor, Hitler asked German President Paul von Hindenburg to dissolve the Reichstag and call for a new parliamentary election. The date set for the elections was 5 March 1933.

Hitler's aim was first to acquire a National Socialist majority to secure his position and eliminate the communist opposition. If prompted or desired, the President could remove the Chancellor. Hitler hoped to abolish democracy in a more or less legal fashion by passing the Enabling Act.

The Enabling Act was a special law which gave the Chancellor the power to pass laws by decree without the involvement of the Reichstag. These special powers would remain in effect for four years, after which time they were eligible to be renewed.

Under the existing Weimar constitution, under Article 48, the President could rule by decree in times of emergency. The unprecedented element of the Enabling Act was that the Chancellor himself possessed these powers. An Enabling Act was only supposed to be passed in times of extreme emergency, and, in fact, had only been used once before, in 1923-24, when the government used an Enabling Act to rescue Germany from hyperinflation (see inflation in the Weimar Republic).

To pass an Enabling Act, a party required a vote by a two-thirds majority in the Reichstag. In January 1933, the Nazis had only 32% of the seats and thus were in no position to pass an Enabling Act.

I can imagine it. These guys have more allegiance to their pensions and perks than they do the Constitution.

Rarely have I read a more ignorant comment than yours on FreeRepublic. Begone, troll.

Good point.

Because of the size of our land, if you can leave the vast majority of people alone in their day to day lives, you can do anything you want.

The old story of boiling to frog comes to mind. The fire is simply turned up slowly. Just getting a little warm around here....

Just who, exactly, would be drawn to such an organization. And really, they shoot with their pistols sideways. Not gonna hit anything but the guy standing next to them.

“if martial law is ever introduced you will see the true patriots enmass and it won’t be pretty....”

Under Martial Law there would not be an opportunity to gather “enmass”. All travel and communications (internet) will be shut down immediately. You are where you are and you better hope you have enough food/medicine etc. to sustain you and your family for an extended period of time.

If you post on Conservative websites, attended a TEA Party or have a DTOM flag in your front yard they know who you are and where you live. We all have liberal Socialist neighbors that would rat us out in a heartbeat to further their goals of tyrannical rule over all Americans. Yes, they fail to realize that they, too, would be included.

It would be impossible to organize and muster “enmass” after ML is declared. Come up with a plan starting today. Idle chit-chat amongst like-minded friends may make us ‘feel’ better, but if and when TSHTF it ain’t worth sh!t.

Unless you are Rambo or some other fictional character, the ammo you squirrel away may supply our enemies and be used to kill people on our side if you are eliminated. Maybe you and your friends could maintain a separate and shared arsenal.

I saw the Russian Politburo pull this crap in 1991 and all that it did was get they themselves lined up against a wall and shot by the very military they legally ordered to enforce martial law. Remember these guys were Soviet Communists and believe me our military has far many more doubts against this government. A large number of our soldiers have made up their mind are going around today saying uphold and defend the Constition against all enemies both foreign and DOMESTIC. The new book “The Manchurian President” NY Times bestseller is very popular with the Armed Services.
