We've been hearing a lot of comments recently about a national coup d'etat scheduled for sometime in late summer or early fall and designed to circumvent the coming Democrat debacle in the 2010 elections.
This is an example of political gothic of a type that I tend to overlook. But my interest was piqued by the fact that it has been mentioned several dozen times in the comment threads of essays of mine in recent weeks. I've had a little difficulty grasping exactly how such a thing would work, so I've spent the last few days puzzling it out.
The contention is that at some point before the upcoming November elections, an "incident" of some violent but unknown nature will occur that will provide Obama with the opportunity to declare "martial law" across the country, which will involve the "cancellation" or "postponement" of the elections. This will enable the Obama dictatorship to take off its humanist mask and put its true agenda into play, part of which involves sending JRD up to Prudhoe Bay to feed moss to the caribou for the next ten years.

This martial law Underdog vs. Ultimate Tyrant notion is a fantasy which has continued unabated for the last quarter-century I have been following it. Nothing about it has changed except the President accused of plotting the coup.
Yah, this time its different. Just as it has been for 25 years.
For a coup to be successful you usually need the military behind it.
I just cannot imagine the guys I know in the senior ranks of the military ordering tanks onto the streets of the US.
Yes, things are bad. Yes, Obama is an idiot. But I dont take talk of a coup very seriously.

Hey, if Obama just says “we’re at war” and invades Pakistan or Iran, FReeRepublic will fall in line and if anyone questions the forgotten elections, FReepers will call them unpatriotic and “hate America firsters” and head back to their martial autoeroticism.
I remember people around here speculating on that at the end of the Clinton administration. And no doubt many liberals were conviced that would happen at the end of the Bush administration. Now it's back to speculating about it during an Obama administration, and no doubt it will occur again at the end of the next Republican one. Some things never change.
We hear this crap every election cycle.
I seem to recall the left making similar claims about Bush a couple of years back. For that matter, I seem to recall the right making similar claims about Clinton some ten years back. . .
I can imagine SIEU/Black Panthers/Acorn taking up arms. O could send the troops all over the globe so they are not here. I wouldnt be surprised at all.
So, you do think U.S. military officers will be fine with ordering guns to be trained on citizens?
