Tensions are rising at a California high school where five students were sent home for wearing American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo.
More than 200 Hispanic students reportedly skipped class on Thursday and marched to school district headquarters while chanting "we want respect" and "si se puedes" -- "yes we can" -- the Morgan Hill Times reported.
"We did this to support the Latino/Hispanic community," Francine Roa, a 2005 Live Oak High School graduate, told the newspaper.
At least six Morgan Hill police vehicles traveled alongside the students, many of whom carried Mexican flags. No arrests were made related to the march, the newspaper reported.
Police have been told to be on alert for gang-related retaliation against the boys, according to Ken Jones, whose stepson, Daniel Galli, was one of the students who refused to turn their T-shirts inside-out when asked by a vice principal on Wednesday.
"We just want this whole thing to die down," Jones told FoxNews.com. "We're not trying to keep these flames firing."
The five teens -- Galli, Austin Carvalho, Matt Dariano, Dominic Maciel and Clayton Howard -- were sitting at a table outside Live Oak High School Wednesday morning when Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez asked two of them to remove their American flag bandannas, one of the boys' parents told FoxNews.com. The youths complied, but were asked to accompany Rodriguez to the principal's office.
The students were then told they must turn their T-shirts inside-out or be sent home, though it would not be considered a suspension. Rodriguez told the students he did not want any fights to break out between Mexican-American students celebrating their heritage and those wearing American flags, the parent said.
But Jones said the preemptive action was unnecessary, and that Rodriguez "overstepped his bounds."

I say give them the respect they deserve and ship them back to Mexico.

Isn’t walking out of school a suspendable offense? Were they sent home for the rest of the day? OR do the rules only aplly to the Norte-Americanos?
The Vice Principal lite the fuse to this on Wednesday when he made it one group against another.
Kids who wear American Flag T-shirts on 5 May should have to share a lunchroom table with those who wear a hammer and sickle on 4 July, he tweeted.
It is pleasant to reflect upon the fact that I have not watched a moment of any broadcast including Herr Ebert since before Gene Siskel passed away. I liked Gene well enough, but Roger was capable of making my skin crawl even then. He has not improved, I see, and clearly has not the faintest idea of what country he is a citizen. You'd think someone using English as a profession would have heard of the word and be able to use it in a sentence. Here's the example of how that ain't necessarily so.
My father fought (and many died) for that flag. I refuse to let a bunch of illegal whiners and their supporters terrorize me into not displaying the flag.
Too bad that school administrator doesn’t have the ballz to tell all those anti-American weenies to go to he11.
Some adults at this school need to be held accountable for any violence that results from this.
If the local police set up a road block near the school and checked for driver’s licenses, insurance and registration they would find that a lot of those illegal HS kids don’t have a license to drive.
We should be deporting the little bastards(most of them are).
If I remember my Spanish correctly, "si" is a word that can mean "yes", or it can mean "if", depending on context.
Since there is no comma there, I have to assume they mean "if we can".
Which seems appropriate.
“The Vice Principal lite the fuse to this on Wednesday when he made it one group against another.”
Absolutely correct!
A couple of those shirts are UFC shirts with the US flag colors embedded into the design.
He should’ve backed off of that completely, it’s a deliberate attempt to ban a combination of colors resembling the American flag, not even a true depiction of it.
The principal deserves every bit of grief he gets.
>>Kids who wear American Flag T-shirts on 5 May should have to share a lunchroom table with those who wear a hammer and sickle on 4 July, he tweeted.<<
Yeah, if they were in the Soviet Union. But they are in the US.
All of these analogies fall flat. The real comparison would be a Mexican, IN MEXICO, wearing a shirt to a MEXICAN school with a Mexican flag on it on the 4th of July.
As the numbers of illegals grow, it will become harder and harder for your politicians and police departments to stand up and take care of the problem.<<
That may apply to CA. It doesn’t apply to AZ. :)
Was thinking the same thing on both accounts.
Of course, the lunatics who started the whole ‘si se puedes’ thing could also be partly illiterate. Obeying convention being optional in liberal/progressive land, spelling, grammar and punctuation are what they say they are and Humpty Dumpty is actually their totem.
It appears that the rules only apply to the Norte-Americanos. The whole idea that it Cinco-De-Mayo is even celebrated in this country and acknowledged at such a large scale by the hispanic vice principal is disgusting. He needs to go!
You want respect? Stop skipping school for every stupid little thing.
These air-head student’s need to be told NO,NO,You Can’t.
Who the hell do they think they are?Low lifes.
I’d vacation in China before I’d go to that crapstye Mexico.
Those who possess the mental faculties of a fool seem to get the most print and media face time.
If I’d been one of those students I’d have refused to leave. Let them arrest me and drag me out of a public school for showing American patriotism. Make sure there’s video first.
