Yid With Lid: He was giving the key note speech at a Washington Institute For Near East Policy and started it out with a "joke" that borders on anti-Semitic, teaching the crowd that Jews are just greedy merchants in the same vein as Shakespeare's Shylock...
Editor's note: For Yid With Lid's full post on "The Joke" see the related link below.

Yes. I was there. It was not very big. There were Tea Partiers there too.
Only politician there was Dov Hikind and a Republican Black Minister (I forgot his name) who will be running I think against Rangel .
No Jewish groups. Where was Avi Weiss??? Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs spoke among others.
(Am late into this discussion, sorry but HAD to chime in...)
If Jones had said this while serving in the Bush admin, I’d have groaned out loud and felt he deserved any criticism he’d get - I do not pay govt officials to tell lame, questionable, inappropriate jokes on my time! If this is SOP for Jones, I’m amazed he’s gotten as far as he has with this bad judgement...oh wait, he’s in the Obambi admin...never mind...
*GROAN* That was hardly helpful, Freep...
Good for you...sometimes, stuff just ISN’T funny...to ANYONE...and mistakes like this are hard to overlook...
What is not funny is his President's Middle East policy.
I’m Jewish and I think the joke is hilarious!
The next day he comes in and also order three Guinness pints, drinks them all down.
He comes in the third day he does the exact same thing, but this time the bartender says, "You know you can order these one at a time if you want to."
The patron says, "No, you don't understand. I have two brothers; one is in Austrailia and one is in the States. Every day we go into a pub at the same time and drink three pints of Guinness, just like we used to when we were young. This way, we never drink alone."
On the fourth day, the patron walks into the bar again, only this time he orders only two pints of Guinness.
The bartender says, "I'm so sorry to see that one of your brothers has died."
The man responds, "Oh no. One of my brothers did not die. I just quit drinking."
....I can take humor...I like it and practice it myself. Today....I have taken a lickin....for my Frederick Douglass post...(even from a MODER_TOR)..but I am still tickin....and he/she is still red faced....
How's that for a bit of old Freeper wisdom....? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
no Jewish groups what so ever they must suffer from battered wife syndrome. An ex girlfriend from scarsdale NY got married and even though I thought I knew her I did not. The election was coming up and we were talking via email about who we wanted. I pointed out that Mccain isn’t the best person but much better than obama. She wanted obama because as she put it “he will be a better friend to Israel” I gave her numerous articles and facts to dispel her thought and she came back with the likes of huff post, etc. I told her that I had given her links like the BBC of which they love etc and that the likes of MSNBC Huff post is bias Her response was I was acting like a NAZI, the right wing were NAZI’S, they hate the Jews and calling the media bias was a NAZI tactic I swear I nearly hit the roof considering I had got into a fight protecting her and her Jewish friends once in Boston from far left students who were for the Palestinians and i had gone out with her as a non Jew. It seems that the guy she married was a far left idiot who seemed to have have his own bigotry against Germans and looked down on anyone who bought a German car etc He was so radical he moved to Chappaqua just to be near the Clintons It’s amazing how someone can change so much in such a short time and I have never bothered to talk to her again even though she had sent mail to me Anyone like that and anyone who throws accusations like that is not worthy of any attention or my time IMHO
No, I DON’T think this is the first time an “official” has told a joke, blah, blah, blah...but I DO expect that the jokes are appropriate, etc - did you hear the audio of the “joke” being told? I did and it took freakin’ FOREVER for him to tell it - a TOTAL waste of time - and was stupid to boot (yes, my opinion but looking at most of the comments on this thread, I am NOT alone!)
So, with the money the US tax payer is paying, I think lame jokes should be kept to a minimum...MY opinion (and my right to express it) as a tax payer and a proud American
Only if you get the joke behind the joke.
I'll expound:
Whether the skin is black or white, has had some Middle Eastern olive oil rubbed into it, or whether it's chafed by a collar and neck-tie -- or even if it's a little dehydrated....
...folks should grow some thickness to their skin -- we're not onions.
Good on ya...keep rockin’...cheers...
Of course you can have your opinion that the joke was not correct, lame etc.. and think jokes should be kept to a minimum. Just keep that in mind when a future Republican appointed official tells a lame joke. However, that does not get to the point.
The point is that he was not trying to be anti semitic, he was not catering to the muslim community etc.. as some have alledged. That is a demeaning of his character that is not deserved given his long service to this country. If anything, a man of General Jones stature should be given the benefit of the doubt. He is one of the few and I mean very few (possibly the only one) in the Obama administration that is a good guy not out to destroy our country and way of life as we know it.
Hey, I get what you were trying to do...and under diff circumstances, I would think it was funny...but the poster got slammed by the admin mod where the mod had made a mistake and the poster was understandably raw about it...any other time, I think “sepia” would have been a real scream...got to go put some onion layers back on...cheers.
The phrase “Don’t quit your day job” comes to mind for Mr. Jones.
You did the right thing...... you Nazi!!! : )
racist
Very interesting OPINION of yours - not agreed with by many on the thread (as to his being helpful to Middle East policy)...
Yes, his service is admirable - I happen to come from a military background (service - 29+ yrs) but that doesn’t mean the guy can’t be a twit, wrong-headed, mis-guided and part of the problem in this highly problematic admin...
Service to country doesn’t mean a free pass on lousy foreign policy...and speeches... Don’t get me going on Joe Sestak....
