Please check out the provision for a Commissioned Corps and Ready Reserve Corps. in the healthcare bill. I don't know what it has to do with healthcare but it sounds an awful lot like Obama just got his own personal militia.

It certainly could be abused, just as the United States Army could be abused. However, this bill does not alter the powers and responsibilities of the PHS from what they have been for decades. The PHS has always had a national security role.
Reading... sounds like if the student agrees to work with “high-needs” they can reduce their prison term by 3 months per year. And just what is “high-needs”??? Auschwitz?

Thanks for bringing some facts and clarity to the thread. This is a particularly distressing time becuase the actual destruction of our liberties is occuring- so it’s easy to jump to conclusions about possible or imagined threats.

An important point about the SS is that, early on, there was an intense propaganda campaign to make them acceptable. The SS was touted as full of people who were “just like everyone else”. SS members were portrayed as helping children, protecting animals, and trying to set good moral examples. From the Nazis’ standpoint, this was critical.
I don’t think Obama can put together such an organization, or at least not in the same manner, because they will never be able to overcome the perception that they are not and never will be “just like everyone else”. Any such organization will be filled with two groups: minorities and radicalized youth. When the Black Panther at the Philadelphia polling place announced, “now you’ll know what it’s like to be ruled by the black man,” he was telling us more than most people realized. To Obama’s most ardent supporters, the ones who would join such an “Obama-SS” or “Obaam Youth”, they are preparing for the War against Whitey, in much the same way that the SS was preparing for the War on the World.
But one thing they won’t get is get the full support of the American people, because they’ll never be able to make everyone think that the New Black Panther, the Mexican gang member, or the Liberated ex-Con is “just like us”. Not only will we be able to easily pick them out, we’ll know who they are from the get-go.
Of course, the Left will know this and we can expect to see W-H-I-T-E college-age kids in lily-white suburbs being presented at every opportunity. It will be up to us to identify the rest, and that’s where the immediate propaganda battle will take place.
I’m not sure who’s in the greatest danger. From a violence standpoint I would put it on those who live nearest minority communities, simply because they’re the easiest to go after and the easiest to experiment flexing any power upon (which is why no firefighter should enter my house if it catches fire—we are that well-armed). On the other hand, the people who live nearest the minority communities know (or should know), through experience, what to expect at the tender mercies of the minority community should they gain the power of life and death over them. Put simple, they know what to expect because they observe it every single day on a smaller scale—via the local news.
I think those most susceptible from a propaganda standpoint are those who don’t live near minority communities. Most Americans, I believe are willing to give most people the benefit of the doubt, and therein lies their danger. It can be hard to believe that an Obama Corps that is 95% black might be capable (and even enthusiastic) about committing violence against them for no reason, but to people who see gangs of black teens do it all the time on a smaller scale it isn’t far-fetched at all. From a propaganda standpoint, it might be difficult (and yet critical) to convince middle America of the existence of the monster that they have never experienced or dreamed could exist.
They need to hang a sheet over it for a few years.

I can hardly blame you - I blame Congress for passing a 2300 page bill which amends language scattered throughout the U.S. Code. It’s unconscionable.

There is no possible way such a force can be hidden. Such a force requires massive amounts of TRAINING to become a cohesive, effective force. At the barest minimum they need Co-strength organization in many places throughout the country. Any leftie who thinks they can just scoop up a bunch of black gangbangers from Philly and start subjugating the region needs to get off the dope. Just around here, some calls to some PD friends and ten-minute trips to the local gun clubs (yes, I said clubs — as in plural) will get the word out to a number of well-armed individuals who are very, VERY competent at their craft. And note that I didn’t mention handguns — we have ALL kinds around here.
And I haven’t even mentioned official means of putting down such uprisings such as County Wide Assist. Our cops know how to deal with large groups of rioting, armed minorities. They CAN handle gangbangers with automatic weapons — they’ve had to do it before.

None of us want a Marxist fix such as this entire bill to what is a commercial market problem. However, even as a member of the most suspicious on this board, this particular provision doesn’t immediately alarm me.
On the face of it, without researching statutes and laws that may be referenced, this appears limited to augmenting currently existing medical services in times of national emergencies. And, given the possibility/likelihood of future 9-11-type events (chemical weapons, etc), it seems a prudent idea.
Have you ever seen the ordinarily civilian Surgeon General not wearing a military type of uniform?
