Company plans to reduce sodium by 10 percent in its products over 2 years
NORTHFIELD, Ill. - Kraft Foods says it will cut the salt in its products sold in North America by an average of 10 percent over the next two years as food makers try to appeal to health-conscious consumers.
Kraft said Wednesday that the move will reduce the sodium in Oscar Mayer Bologna by 17 percent and Easy Mac Cups by 20 percent. This comes on top of other cuts it has made in sodium levels in recent years.

I don’t mind them decreasing salt if that is what their customers want and not what the government demands.

I agree. I’m ok with it as long as the government isn’t forcing them to.

Didn’t we go through this crap at some point in the 2nd half of last century?
History sure is repeating itself quickly these days.

It might be better to short Kraft. The stock never moves any way and when folks quit buying the unsalty stuff profits will erode.

Heh... that short could backfire on you... people might start adding more of their own salt and consume even more.

It certainly doesn't bother me. They've jacked the salt levels up way high to flavor their cheap food. I wish everyone would sell stuff with lower salt content.
You can't even get away from salt when you have a bowl of cereal. Just one small bowl of cherrios gives you about 15% of what you need for the day, so what about a nice Jethro Bodine sized bowl like most of us eat?
The folks who want more salt, are welcome to use their salt shakers.

Bleh! Most things can be purchased as low sodium or regular, why are they doing this chit?!
I can’t STAND the low fat stuff OR low sodium stuff, it tastes NASTY or bland.
I guess I won’t be buying KRAFT.

Right. I’m sure that people who eat bologna and Easy Mac are deeply concerned about their health, so this makes perfect sense.

Why are these big bad powerful corporations always caving in to the left? Affirmative action, eco-green, gun control, global warming, food nazis, etc.

My wife recently had major heart surgery. As a result she is on a low salt or no salt diet. It is amazing the amount of salt in processed food. The dietitian at the hospital said 75% of are salt is obtained from processed foods. Just look at the labels, you will be amazed. Just cutting out processed foods will decrease your intake of salt dramatically.
To: Nachum
Looks like all the posters on this thread want someone else to monitor and control their dietary intake. If salt is so bad, and Kraft is trying to poison you with sodium, then why are you buying Kraft products?

I always keep one each of McCormick's sea salt and Peppercorn Medley grinders on the kitchen table. I don't know where my regular shakers have disappeared over the last few years, and I don't care. It's like the Allies charged in and liberated my taste buds from the Flavor Nazis. LOL
