John Roberts, Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, is seriously considering stepping down from the nation’s highest court for personal reasons, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.

Roberts, known for his conservative judicial philosophy, has served on the Supreme Court since 2005, having been nominated by President George W. Bush after the death of former Chief William Rehnquist.

RadarOnline.com has been told that Roberts, 55, could announce his decision at any time.

The decision paves the way for President Barack Obama to make his second appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court following his first, Sonia Sotomayor.

It would need something hugh and series to happen to Roberts. That old bird Ginsberg has sworn to die with her boots on.

The good news is that this is a conventional gossip site, very unreliable. The bad news is that - along with the National Enquirer - they got a lot of scoops on the Edwards affair.

Having said that, if this was true, it would have came from more conventional sources. There are WAY TOO many real reporters on the SCOTUS beat for them to get scooped by a gossip rag. I put the odds at 1 in 10K that this is true.

Myers would look awful good in a situation like this.

Unstoppable without civil war is what I meant.

Once we get to that point, all bets are off.

National Enquirer? Is that the one that pegged Edwards?

Roberts could be caught kidnapping children to perform in the North Korean Man-Boy circus...and I’d still want him to stay.

I don't post much, but I think this should be a wake up call to any faithful American. If one person stepping down makes or breaks the future of our nation, then we're beyond saving.

Btw, can we really trust this "source"?

I cannot imagine a more grave, shocking and negative political event, that would horribly impact decades to come, than this.

Well, many on FR claim that McCain would have appointed the same Liberal judges that Obama will appoint.

This is why the anti-McCain stuff here is so ABSURD!!!

Obviously not always unreliable, yep, I think they’re up for a Pulitzer because of the Edward snag...but even a broken clock is right 2 times a day.

Oh. I feel a lot better reading that.

Knowing that a leftist gossip site is behind this bring me relief.

This smells like pure and unadulterated BS.

It’s a gossip site. It’s usually right.

But they say it is a rumor.

No flames from this direction. You are absolutely correct.

One person between freedom and slavery? That is not the Americans I know.

I don’t like McCain, but I did vote for him, and one of the reasons was that there was no way his judicial appointments would have been as bad. Also, McCain respects the process and the three branches of government, which Bambi does not.
