I'm working on a PowerPoint presentation on a friend's mac, and wanting to insert a video into a slide.
I am pretty conversant with PowerPoint, mostly on a PC, but haven't ever put a video into a presentation.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to grab a Youtube video, convert it to an appropriate file, and insert it into a slide? Given that this PowerPoint for Mac, should it be converted to a .wmv file?
Thanks as always.
There are dozens of free converter programs on download.com.
Its really easy.
IIRC there are even web pages that you can type the You Tube URL into, and it will in turn offer you a WMV or other chosen movie format for download.
Funny you should ask, I just did this. Download a free tool called youtube downloader from cnet here: http://download.cnet.com/YouTube-Downloader/3000-2071_4-10647340.html this will download the file then once downloaded you can use the same program to convert the downloaded video to the format you need.
Here’s an easier solution:
- plzy the youtube video on your computer, pause it at the place you want to capture
- move the cursor out of the way
- hit Fn-Insert (use Fn like a shift key) to do a print-screen which actually copies it into a buffer somehere
- open Paint or some graphics progra
- in Paint (if that’s what you used), click on Edit, Paste to bring that copy of the screen into Paint
- crop, resize, etc, then save as a .JPG file or .BMP or whatever
saving

Someone else will surely help re: Powerpoint specifics
www.videohelp.com is a good place to start looking for this kind of thing. There is a large forum, and reviews of software and hardware. Good luck.
There is a real easy way to download youtube vids called voobys. Just surf to a youtube video you want, then click on the address bar and replace "youtube" with "voobys" and hit enter, then follow the instructions on the page it takes you to.

If you use Firefox, there are a number of addons (my favorite is Easy YouTube Video Downloader 2.1) that allows you to very easily save the higher-quality YouTube videos in their native formats - usually MP4, and sometimes in HD). Windows Media Player can easily handle MP4, so you don’t really have to convert anything, as you might with a Flash (FLV) file.
http://keepvid.com downloads youtube videos and converts to several formats.
