And so it begins:
CPAC embraces the new Mitt Romney

South Carolina mulls 2012: Romney? Palin? Huck?

Romney now biggest threat to Obama head to head

These are just a few examples from the last two days.
You'll also notice the (once again) packed straw poll at CPAC, and a sudden surge in Freepers attacking Sarah Palin at every turn.
It seems the push is already at full force. Mitt Romney is the guy to beat, like it or not (remember that McCain enjoyed -5% support at FR during the campaign), and the GOP is circling the wagons early this time.
Add to that several weekend columns out-of-nowhere attacking Sarah Palin again (George Will, Dorothy Rabinowitz, Kathleen Parker, et al).
let there be no doubt, the organized effort is afoot.
Not even.
While I like Sarah, I’m not necessarily convinced that her running for president in 2012 is a good idea.
Romney is a decidedly bad idea.
I would like to see who else decides to jump in. Who that is I don’t know.
The media absolutely fears/detests this woman and they will make it their mission to completely destroy her if she gets into the race. It would be great to have her as SecDef, or CIA chief, or Sec of Treasury.
Maybe he’s not a RINO. Maybe he’s a closet Democrat who wants to make sure they win?
Right on!
BTTT
I wouldn't limit the options quite so strictly. There are others who are worth a look like DeMint, Pence, Hunter, Barbour...
“”What a load of horsesh**. Even if there were a “new” Romney, I sure as hell wouldn’t trust him, or waste my vote on him.
You read my mind. “””””
I’ve voted a straight Republican ticket for 30 some years.
If the best they can find is Romney then I’ll be sitting this one out.
All I need to know about the guy is that he was elected by the same people that voted for Lurch and the swimmer.
No thanks.
I have also noticed this, whenever Sarah is in the news or slams Obama on something, the trolls come out to trash her, noticed it more and more. Even with the Family Guy episode, some are even trashing Sarah for DEFENDING her own son. Mitt Romney 2012..I’ll just stay home if that happens. Obama, Romney, what’s the difference, so what, we get Romney instead of Obama, so we trade one big ass liberal for another big ass liberal who just happens to have an R next to his name..oh goody!
Not sure who "they" are, but I am guessing it is not that "they" don't want Sarah per se, it's about worrying about all the other people who don't seem to want her.

If she can turn those numbers around, things will change.
It might be his turn but he won’t be the nominee.
i really dont see sarah picking mitt for VP—lol
This is the point where the bottom falls out from the Republican party!
If anyone had wanted him, he would have been stronger in 2008. The party rank and file has rejected Rumney.
Nope.
I don't want to see a Romney, a Huckabee, a Pawlenty or a Perry anywhere on the ticket.
Seriously, why won’t Cheney run? He may have cardiac problems today, but he already did back in 2000. I can’t think of anyone more qualified than Cheney for POTUS.
Voting for Romney is like voting for McLame.
Unfortunately, the GOP Primary set-up favors the front-runner, and Moderates. Giuliani was the fist early front-runner NOT to get the nomination, and that was mostly because his followers dissented to their second choice, McCain, when they finally came to terms with how opposed Rudy was by the grassroots. Also, he had previously burned some bridges that never fully got repaired.
The Democrats have had upsets numerous times, including with Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Their primaries are set-up in such a way that upsets are more likely to happen.
The truth is: the GOP machinery is VERY effective in getting their candidate the nomination. Romney is ADORED by the establishment, absolutely LOVED. He is the odds-on favorite, and that's before the GOP encourages DeMint to run in SC (To bleed a likely Sarah win there and in NC/FL), Perry in TX (same), Gingrich in GA (same), Thune in the mountain states (same), and Santorum (to ensure PA and OH go Romney).
I am all for Palin, 100% behind her. But we have to be real and understand that this is Romney's nomination to lose.
“It might be his turn but he wont be the nominee.”
I pray you are right, but I’m skeptical.
First order of business to prevent this is to kick Juan McCain to the curb.
Romney will never choose Sarah to be his Vice President. If he does I’ll eat my shoe. It’s never gonna happen
No, it’s Republicans who run the guy whose turn it is. That’s how we got Bob Dole who didn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning. We’ll run Mitt because it’s his turn. That’s part of the mindset of most Republicans, I think. Dems tend to run somebody out of left field - like Clinton, Obama, etc.
Yep he’ll chose Jim DeMint.
That’s a fake, couch potato poll.
