"Obama to Announce $8 Billion High-Speed Rail Plan After State of the Union Speech" Wednesday, January 27, 2010 By Julie Pace, Associated Press
SNIPPET: "Washington (AP) - A day after delivering a State of the Union address aimed at showing recession-weary Americans he understands their struggles, President Barack Obama intends to award $8 billion in stimulus funds to develop high-speed rail corridors and sell the program as a jobs creator.
Obama and Vice President Joe Biden plan to announce grants for 13 major corridors during a town hall meeting in Tampa, Fla., Thursday..."

Every single one of these programs grossly underestimates the price and overestimates projected revenue. These will be a vast boondoggle.
LOL! It's funny because it's true.

This stop, Obamaville. Obamaville this stop.
Next stop, Potter’s Field. Potter’s Field next stop.
Any business owner along a rail corridor in Houston will tell you...go to hell!
Years of blocked roads, cost overruns, excuses for slipped completion dates, hazardous electrical leakage, total disruption during flooding (which happens regularly in Houston), and on and on....
It is always a boondoggle....but all that cash flows to the left....always the rail supporters....and who rides the rail?
What a crock. Create jobs? Are you kidding me?
Follow the Money: High Speed Rail—> GE Engines. Another liberal push of taxpayer dollars to their cronies. God save us from this our Moron in Chief.
It’s like Atlas Shrugged -only in reverse.
High-speed rail only works with minimal stops. The fewer stops, the less attractive it is to the average commuter.
Our industries have sprawled out from the cities, hence point-to-point service will get you into the next major city where you will have to take a bus for a few hours to get to your destination.
Of course, high-speed rail links between large metro areas will help ACORN move voters from one area to the next!
Yep -absolutely true.
Here in central NC, we have had tons of money paid by taxpayers/governments (and some private funds) for YEARS to try to get a commuter train set up to connect Raleigh to the Research Triangle Park since I40 to the Park is such a traffic nightmare at times.
It is a TOTAl waste of money - even though the Democratic Mayors of Raleigh and Cary and the Democrats in the NC Legislature and Governor’s mansion and other (Dems mostly) have been pushing for it for so long.
It hasn’t gotten off the drawing board yet - THANK GOD - but those billions have still been set aside to make it so - do those studies - etc etc etc.
so here the Dems come again - more billions down the train drain in the midst of a recession/depression. Yeah - that’ll help things / not.
“Is it true the rails could bent?”
It’s going to be built expressly to haul Acorn voters around the country as needed....
Useless crap
We need real industry in America like steel and oil&gas drilling and production. Not more faggy trains.
Democrats are always pimping these collectivist solutions where their beloved sheeple get onboard trains and give up automobiles
These trains never pay for themselves. They are always boondoggles and make work projects for construction unions. Then the people who eventually run the trains are ALWAYS GUBBERMINT WORKERS! More stooges on the government payroll for taxpayers to support because like I said -—these trains never pay for themselves
Keeps getting shot down on the west coast because the envirowackos.
Good luck getting anything built in the socialist republic of california without it costing 10xs what it should due to “environmental impact studies and union labor demands”.
Great - the economy is sinking faster than Ted Kennedy’s Oldsmobile, and this is his answer? An 8 billion dollar boondoggle that will end up subsidized anyway?
If we don’t put a serious squeeze on this bastard in the mid-terms, there may not be much of an economy left in 2012.
