Pelosi Endorses ‘Global’ Tax on Stocks, Bonds, and other Financial Transactions

(CNSNews.com) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) endorsed the idea of a “global” tax on stock trades and other financial transactions, saying the estimated $150 billion in annual revenue from such a tax could be used to help fund more stimulus spending.

At her weekly press briefing on Thursday, Pelosi said the financial transactions tax (HR4191) currently before Congress would have to be made “global” to keep U.S. investors from taking their business overseas and out of taxable reach.

The House speaker said that a transaction tax could be imposed in conjunction with congressional efforts to divert funds from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), with funds from both going to fund a second stimulus spending package. (The first stimulus bill, $789-billion, was signed into law by President Barack Obama on Feb. 13, 2009.)

“I believe that the transaction tax still has a great deal of merit,” Pelosi told reporters. “The concern that many of us or others have had is that it will send, it will send transactions overseas.

It is so sad that the media brainwashes so well... that no one realizes this is coming soon. Instead of getting Obama out of power legally with PLENTY of his actions people are thinking all will be peachy if the pubs could just win.
The republicans are not the savio,r getting Obama Impeached is.

Their idea of a “stimulus” is to suck up all the liquidity.

This is how you turn an economy into a block of concrete.

Too easy? If they inact what they want to enact it will be global communism and the man that got a peace prize will rule. If Obama suspended elections with new laws what are we going to do about it?

Goldman Sacks and George Soros want to short the market again. Pelosi will dutifully oblige them.

I really don’t think Americans would sit by and let elections be suspended. Not sure how they would stop him, but they would.

This mentally screwed up woman is actually a direct result of the nuts in the bay area putting her in office for decades (?) correct? Is there any chance of anyone running against and defeating her? I would like to send money to any politician running against Pelosi, she is terribly dangerous, hatefilled and power-driven .

Hope this teaches Wall Street a lesson about getting in bed with RATS.

That said, I believe the brokerage industry will kill this. Both parties rely on Wall Street for campaign contributions.

Think about the different sets of rules during European feudal times for the nobility and the peasants.

This is what they want here and now.

“Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), with funds from both going to fund a second stimulus spending package.”

Question? Does anyone know if Obama’s misuse of TARP violates the law under which the TARP program was established in late 2008?

TARP was intended as a temporary measure to preclude the financial collapse of big banks that became insolvent, because they were left holding toxic assets when the housing bubble burst. The banks (were supposed to return the money to the govt when they could.

Obama started to misuse TARP as soon as he took office (e.g. to nationalize private auto companies). Now he intends to use TARP to fund current spending so that he can hide the cost of govt spending programs like porkulus, health care, and cap and trade prior to the 2010 elections.

All this is grossly unethical. But does it not also violate the letter of the law that established TARP?

What is meant by “global” in this context?

Does it mean any purchased by U.S. citizens?
