The Obama administration is considering an almost complete surrender in Afghanistan, if the report this weekend by the BBC's Katty Kay is accurate.
Speaking as a panelist on the Chris Matthews Show, a weekend public affairs broadcast, Kay reported on the internal debate at the White House, "There are real questions being asked, I think, about whether even with a big injection of troops this is a real country, a real war that you can win.
"And there's a new phrase which is floating around the White House which is 'minimum security'. That we're not actually aiming for a country which is stable that we are in control of, but we are aiming for a minimum amount of security and perhaps even a negotiated settlement with the Taliban."
This would tie in with reports that Obama has concluded the U.S. cannot beat the Taliban and that he has requested new studies this week, one of each province to determine which ones may be ceded to the Taliban and another for troop levels other than those requested by Gen. McChrystal over two months ago.
Kay's remarks start at the 19:10 minute in the backward clock on the video. She describes three different views on the situation in Afghanistan that have been presented to Obama: The military needs a large injection of troops to perform the current strategy; even with more troops Afghanistan will never be winnable; and "'we have no choice but to win this war' and that is what President Obama said back in March."
Obama has delayed making his decision such that it most likely will not be announced until the end of November, three months into the twelve month window left to win the war Gen. McChrystal stated in August.
Troop casualties in Afghanistan have skyrocketed in the past three months with over 1000 being wounded, and a reported 58 service members killed this past month making it the deadlist month of the eight-year long war.
On Friday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs bragged Obama has spent almost twenty hours in meetings on Afghanistan since August.
Exactly.
That cry baby whiner that thinks everything is about him, makes me want to vomit. Thanks a lot to all of the complete and utter fools that voted for a the color of his skin. I detest each and every one of them. You should have to take a test and pass it to get a voter registration.
Yeah, there are no “good” things about the situation but there can be very “bad” outcomes.

The freaking Taliban? Amazing how Democrats and feminists accept brutality against women when it’s Muslims.
“Lost” implies that he at least tried to win. Obama surrendered Afghanistan is much more accurate. The only thing surprising about this is how blatant his capitulation would be. They’re already trying to spin it. “Minimum security” indeed.
So what we want is a government of whatever stripe that has no tolerance for terrorists and the Taliban. Karzai does not qualify, because he’s tried to make piece with them, and got screwed, but is likely to try again. His opponent has just dropped out of the runoff in protest crooked elections, so it’s Karzai unopposed and tainted. Nice. A troop surge would be merely to maintain a holding pattern ‘til something good happens. We may have to wait a while, and the body count may well go up merely to defend an indefensible status quo.
Truth be known the reason the Zero administration is delaying is because they have probably been in secret negotiations with the Taliban for months.
Nice Pic
obambi is a Moslem Communist Closet Homosexual Cocaine Freak
Baby killing......
anything/everything..... but a Christian
0bama’s the new King Klown of the Kut and Run Krowd. Their white flag ought to feature a yellow stripe.
I would support cleaning out Assistan with 40,000 more troops and less ROEs if we had a Conservative in the WH.
But obambi is very likely to get our military destroyed on purpose. Until we have a conservative controlling our Armed Forces, I favor getting them out of harms way. Its bad enough that Gen. Stanley McCoocoo has promulgated these handcuffing ROEs.
Now that depends on which side he is stategising for. If the Muslims than he has phenomenal strategic judgment.
I think you may be right. I think Obama knows that the military is the one segment that could really oppose him credibly and effectively, and he's taking steps to prevent this.
I am so appalled by the idea of his simply handing things over to the Taliban that I don't know where to begin. And I bet he is also going to try to make this look like a military failure.
Oh, who cares about them? They're only dumb peasants and they don't have strings of pearls and shots of Botox and besides, that's their culture and we wouldn't want to interfere with a sacred Muslim culture.
When I remember how good Bush was on this issue and how the brutal mistreatment of women was really one of the things that galvanized Americans - not to mention gaining us a lot of support from Afghanis and others who did not want to see their society's women locked into cloth bags and treated worse than dogs - I just can't believe that in less than a year we've come around to this.
As far as Obama's concerned, anything a Muslim culture does is ok and he wouldn't want to interfere. And he knows that even if the Taliban and AQ arrived in the US and began to impose their regime, it would be ok for him and his lovely wife because they have money and power. For the rest of us? We don't matter.
All is shows you is how fast something good can be undone when evil people are in charge.
Don't you remember that within just a few weeks, Bush had already been forced (by the hysterical press and the Dems) to change the name of the operation because it might offend Muslims? The press was out to undermine our response from the very start - well, maybe about 2 weeks after 9/11. I'll give them 2 weeks of semi-loyalty.
Congratulations, all those who have given their lives or lost loved ones in the war. Your President is working hard to make sure it was for NOTHING.
I agree we should sign a 100 year lease on 5 big bases in country, stock pile large amounts of weapons and aircraft for when Sarah wins in 2012.
I agree with you that unless we stop trying to “win hearts and minds” and just show them who has the power to stop them, we can’t win. They are not interested in peace but only in power.
When he surrenders (and I have no doubt that he will,) at the following teleprompter reading to Congress the conservative members should stand up and walk out when he begins talking. Abandon him and his ego.
