(CNN) South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham has always enjoyed a little back-and-forth with belligerent audiences.
He was at it again on Monday night as he faced down an angry town hall crowd in Greenville packed with libertarians and Tea Party activists who accused at the Republican senator of ditching conservative principles by working with Democrats on issues like climate change and voting to send Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.
But Graham stressed a mantra he's repeated many times since his friend John McCain lost the presidential election last November that the GOP must reach out to different constituencies, or face extinction.
"I'm not going to leave the Republican Party," Graham said when one questioned asked him why he hasn't yet joined the Democrats. "I'm going to grow it. We're not going to be the party of angry white guys."
His comments were met with a salvo of boos and shouts of "Ron Paul!"

If it wasn’t for Obama screwing up, the GOP would not have a snowballs chance in heck. If the GOP lurches “right” and they win, they will think that is what did it.
parsy, who is shaking his head
Hey RINObot....how’s that lightning feel?
JerryP(utz) has been suspended.
it will be the party of RINO, unemployed, leftist, anal polyps.
No worries.
They will be actively hunted and rooted out and exposed for what they are: treasonous bastards.
And then, they will ride the lightning.
Barb Davis-White, GOP candidate for Minnesota's 5th district.
Larry Elder
Ken Hamblin. They're all angry white guys.
Post 154: “There are a slew of Western and Midwestern states that can be won once the GOP loses the angry old white southern face it has been stuck with for years. Plus, the South itself wont be so Southern much longer. Another decade of Hispanic and Northern immigration as well as the replacement of the old bigot guard with the more enlightened reconstructed younger generation will take care of that.
“
This shows his true face...A BIGOT. He’s a white hater who wants to change this country forever with imported socialists. The continued insults to Southern whites tells it all.....yes, like those ancestors of mine who fought for the Union and never owned a slave. And the many more who supported civil rights. He and his ilk will destroy this nation within the GOP as surely as the liberals will.
And stats and history mean nothing to this type. Conservatives outnumber ‘republicans’. Evidently loosing the base and elections mean more to them than letting go of their unwarranted prejudices.
Now about Sarah Palin. The next election is hers to win IF and when she stands against amnesty. She will loose the voters who have supported her if she does not. Evidently Jerry’s undying support of Palin is because she, so far, supports McCain/Graham amnesty.
We have millions and millions of importees who have NO allegiance to this country...we DO NOT need more.

This is a job for Captain Obvious ;-)
It was Jerry P. Utz that got zotted, Mark.
>>He will on our terms not on his own... And I cant wait!<<
He may not leave the Republican Party, but I'm thinking he will be leaving office, the arrogance in this quote about the last straw:
"I'm going to find people in Maine, Delaware, Illinois and other places that can win," he said. "And I'm going to help them, and we're going to move this party and this country forward. If you don't like it, you can leave."
That's not how it works in this country, Graham, YOU work for US, if we don't like how you perform, WE remove you.
He demonstrates that like so many other GOP candidates back in 1994, his signature on the Contract With America was a fraud, he was no more sincere about that contract than were a good deal others, the only reason they signed on was the PR. A primary challenge, all you South Carolinians, will require major grass-roots support, you will have to do the door-to-door, phone work, financial aid, etc., to help whomever may enter his name, as the GOP has a long-standing policy of providing support to incumbents, no matter how crummy they are, how against the platform they vote. The powers-that-be do everything possible to defeat primary challengers, it is going to be up to those in South Carolina to do the heavy lifting and get this POS out of his position of power.
Graham demonstrates Lord Acton correct in his premise -- we don't like you, Lindsey, you may leave.
Well said AuntB, well said indeed.
And lookee here, it appears that JerryP has left the building, so no need for me to ping that dirtbag.
Adios Jerr, if you were worth a tombstone graphic I’d post one!
But ya ain’t!
“And lookee here, it appears that JerryP has left the building, so no need for me to ping that dirtbag.”
AWWW....he’s gone? He got me insprired enough to get out of my sick bed! Guess I’ll go lay down, now that the fun’s over.:<)
Didn’t know you were feeling poorly AuntB, whatever the trouble is, I hope you get well soon!
:)
This guy needs a swift kick in the @ss, right out of the party. He is NOT a conservative.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love that you are gone.
AuntB, you're pinging me to see a ghost? Glad he's gone, just the same.
As far as Sarah Palin supporting amnesty, I've seen nothing to support that except where she was quoted during McCain's campaign.
What I have seen that she herself wrote, is support of the Alaskan bill to set the expiration date on driver licenses for visa workers to be no later than the expiration of their visa. Her statement was something like, "we should not have people driving on our streets who cannot legally walk on them." We'll probably know more about her stand on illegals when her book arrives.
Just about all the negative comments I've seen about Palin are from those who strongly support some other candidate or potential, but they refuse to disclose which one.
We are in a battle for the soul of the GOP. It appears to be a three-way split between:
If Palin decides not to run, or not to get involved, or if she sides with one of the above groups, either the Dems will win or the RINOs will win. Either way, the US will continue its death spiral.
Common Sense Conservatism is our only hope.
