To The States: Should We Talk About Secession?
Market-Ticker ^ | 11 October 2009 | Karl Denninger

I'm going to go back to this quote by Barney Frank of the US House, because it says everything those in state and local governments need to know:

Barney Frank, the Massachusetts Democrat who is chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said in an interview that the defaults were, in essence, worth it.

“I don’t think it’s a bad thing that the bad loans occurred,” he said. “It was an effort to keep prices from falling too fast. That’s a policy.”

Got it? It's a policy to screw the state and local governments.

Huh, you say? It's simple, really: State and local governments rely on property tax revenues. Yet defaulted mortgages don't pay property taxes. Yes, there's a lien on the property but this doesn't help the municipal budget now.

And suffer they are:

Tax revenues used to pay teachers and fuel police cars continue to trail even the most pessimistic expectations, despite the cash from the economic stimulus plan pouring into state coffers.

"It's crazy. It's really just unbelievable," said Scott Pattison, executive

“All conservatives, everywhere in the nation, need to start thinking about where they want to be when it happens.”

I think you’re right. But it’s also time to “form a more perfect union”. And I say throw the traitors out of OUR country. Just like we did the lobsterbacks and Tories after the war for independence. They’ve got Canada. Kick them out and back to there—at least ship them to China where they should love their serfdom.

Texas was a Republic once before - and a member of the Confederacy after that. Independence is in our genes. Remember the Alamo: Deo Vindice!

17th amendment.

When it passed (if it truly did!), the States, as political entities, as sovereign governments, basically lost all representation.

So now the Senators are just popularity-contest-winners, like the House.

Before Abraham Lincoln, we were called These United States.

After Abraham Lincoln, we are called The United States.

Before the Civil War, "United States" was a plural phrase. The 11th Amendment, adopted in 1795, speaks of lawsuits "against one of the United States". Since Reconstruction, "United States" has been a singular phrase. In the 14th Amendment, adopted in 1868, any reference to the United States is clearly referring to the country as a whole.

>>>”NO we should talk about getting rid of this loser who won the Presidency.”

Think about that comment...

He WON the presidency... Get it? getting rid of HIM does nothing.... The people who elected him will vote themselves ANOTHER one.... We have to “get rid” of those that vote for socialists, and since we cant realistically do THAT, we have to separate ourselves from them.

Screw all that formal, protocol, legalistic crap.

That's how we got into this mess - being the only side that obeys wimpy rules in a system that's rigged to be easily gamed by the dishonest.

We need a non-ambiguous mechanism which results in an obvious outcome:

Knife fight: Our best vs. their best.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

I’m pretty sure that if my state decided we’d had enough it wouldn’t really matter what the SCOTUS had to say about it.

... in the future I will always refer to our nation as ‘These United States’.

Good, excellent! I'm happy to know this.

btw - The District of Columbia is limited to 10 square miles.

It might take a serious threat of secession, or even an actual secession or several, to get rid of him

I think the only way to defeat & throw out this socialist-fascist-commie usurper pig 0boz0, is for Texas & a few other conservative states to start the ball rolling by seceding from 0bozo's USSA

I vote for a divorce between conservatives and liberals. They can live under their own set of laws and pay for their own programs. We’ll do the same. Let’s see who laughs last.

Damn right. Wall off DC, Detroit, San Fornication, Lost Wages and all the other blue cities and let them live in their own filth. Just leave the rest of us alone.

My guess is, if the US comes apart it won't be through secession, it won't be states or regions.

It will break along rural v. urban -- a patchwork of constitutionalists vs. liberal/progressives -- and it will be ugly until the right side prevails.

Doing this will open the door to totally ruining the constitution of the USA. We need to repeal certain amendments(16th and 17th) and make additions to a couple of others(1st, 2nd, 10th and 4th), we don’t need a constitutional convention opening the door to total devastation of the constitution. The additions would be in the form of separate amendments clarifying the amendments I have outlined here.
