Jim DeMint -What I Heard in Honduras
WSJ ^ | October 10, 2009 | Jim DeMint

Posted on 10/09/2009 6:57:13 PM PDT by opentalk

After visiting Tegucigalpa last week and meeting with a cross section of leaders from Honduras's government, business community, and civil society, I can report there is no chaos there. There is, however, chaos to spare in the Obama administration's policy toward our poor and loyal allies in Honduras. In a day packed with meetings, we met only one person in Honduras who opposed Mr. Zelaya's ouster, who wishes his return, and who mystifyingly rejects the legitimacy of the November elections: U.S. Ambassador Hugo Llorens.

Kind of makes one wonder what Obama has in mind if he loses the next election or his two terms are up.

“Our ambassador is the only person I met there who thinks there was a ‘coup.’ Let’s release the State Department legal analysis.”

Three cheers for Jim Demint!

Obama is a communist. He wants his commie friend Zelaya back in power. Obama received the "Peace" prize because "Peace" to the commies is a one world communist government. There it is. End of story. . No wait, it's not the end, it's What are We going to Do about it?

The evidence of Mr. Zelaya's abuses of presidential power—and his illegal attempts to rewrite the Honduran Constitution, a la Hugo Chávez—is not only overwhelming but uncontroverted. As all strong democracies do after cleansing themselves of usurpers, Honduras has moved on.

Maybe Honduras is a good example for us. . .

That is gonna leave a mark. But, will the State Run Media cover this? Sigh

Jim DeMint’s a hero. I am glad that at least the Wall Street Journal is running this story.

If the zero has his way the US won’t be far behind.

That's his goal. Too bad most of our media are so busy licking Obama's backside that they can't see what's in front of him.

What Senator DeMint heard in Honduras was...one side of the story.

There's two sides to every story - the facts, which DeMint has presented here, and the lies which I presume you will recite rather than claiming victory without running the race.

Based on that interview. I would guess Koh’s legal analysis of the Honduran situation is equally unintelligible.

Great article by DeMint, thanks for posting. Slam dunk on Obama and his policy toward Honduras. Love the last line about Chavez, Fidel and Obama.

And why should they show a sitting Senator anything? It is not like America is a Republic or something!

Okay, then why is there still martial law there? Oh, I’m sorry, a “suspension of civil liberties.”

DeMint's closing comments...

"America's Founding Fathers—like the framers of Honduras's own constitution—believed strong institutions were necessary to defend freedom and democracy from the ambitions of would-be tyrants and dictators. Faced by Mr. Zelaya's attempted usurpations, the institutions of Honduran democracy performed as designed, and as our own Founding Fathers would have hoped."

"Hondurans are therefore left scratching their heads. They know why Hugo Chávez, Daniel Ortega and the Castro brothers oppose free elections and the removal of would-be dictators, but they can't understand why the Obama administration does."

"They're not the only ones."

Info from the excellent comments section of the WSJ article:

“I have a question, though, about the election. Is the pro-Zelaya faction represented on the ballot for president? In other words, are any of the names on the ballot for president Zelaya supporters? If not, you could have a free and fair election that resolves nothing.”

“Yes there are two Candidates, Carlos H Reyes who is Independent, and Cesar Hamm who is from the UD party (Union democratica “communists”) Both know that they can’t win (not enough supporters) and have threatened to boycott the elections, or even send their supporters to attack polling booths and burn the ballot boxes.”

“There are two candidates from leftist parties. They both support Zelaya. They also receive money from the FARC. They are also leaders of the corrupt teachers union. The only organization in the country that supports Zelaya. They also are the big human rights abusers in this case that no one hears about. They have not been teaching the kids so they can show support to Zelaya.”

******

James Carville is probably advising one or both of these candidates.

“I’m optimistic the rule of law will prevail. Or we’re totally screwed.”
*****************

If this Honduras situation is a microcosm of what is to come, then it’s the latter.

“Remember Honduras!” should be our battlecry, for it represents several major flaws in this regime (is it an administration we have in Washington, or more accurately, a regime bent on national socio-political destruction and transformation using their unspoken credo: the ends justify the means).

-The judgments made by this president concerning Honduras are proof not only of his poor judgment (favoring a would-be dictator over a constitutional government) but also give a window into his true leanings. He’d prefer an unconstitutional, longterm government over adherence to the term limits their constitutiion mandates.

-the lies of transparency are evident by our regime’s failure to release its own in-house legal opinion that purportedly supports its poor judgment in favoring a would-be dictator over the democratic institutions of Honduras.

-the hypocrisy of our current regime is revealed in its words that we shouldn’t meddle in our nations’ business, but are contradicted by its deeds in withholding US aid to Honduras while allowing a radical extremist to pursue his destructive dreams of obtaining nuclear weapons in Iran.

-the judgments made about Honduras exiling its deposed president reflect the compulsiveness of this regime in Washington. These judgments were made without knowing the Truth, without respecting Honduras’ rule of law, and evince a tendency of our presidente to “act stupidly.”

-The initial attempt of the communist sympathizer John Kerry to prevent Senator DeMint from travelling to Honduras is despicable, and the Obama regime’s alliance with a South American dictator on the Honduras issue once again reflects a partisanship that favors leftist dictatorships over a centrist constitutional rule of law that is the basis of Honduras’ government.

-characterizing the events of Honduras as a “military coup” is further proof of how our current regime will manipulate actual events into a disingenuous narrative, using soundbytes and catchy phrases meant to provoke anger towards the status quo.

-The antagonism demonstrated by words AND deeds towards our allies who have more in common with us than the totalitarian regimes to which Obama has reached out, is evidence that the regime in Washington looks down on democratic republics and prefers authoritarian governments.

How the current regime in Washington reacts to Senator DeMint’s report must be closely watched and scrutinized, for the Honduras matter is as close to being a black and white situation as we can get. And, the regime presently governing the US has clearly come down on the wrong side of the fence, and that is the point of not forgetting, or allowing anyone to forget the misfeasance demonstrated by Presidente Obama concerning Honduras.
