WASHINGTON Sen. Barbara Boxer left little doubt she was having a particularly good time Wednesday. Wearing sunglasses, California's junior Democratic senator made her way to a stage on the east lawn of the Capitol, then stood in front of a huge U.S. flag and waved to a throng of supporters as U2's "It's a Beautiful Day" roared through the loudspeakers.
"What a great day!" enthused the senator. "This is like giving birth again!"
Boxer was celebrating her alliance with Massachusetts Democratic Sen. John Kerry to introduce a long-awaited bill that, if approved, could land her in the history books.
The legislation the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act would force the United States to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2020, setting more ambitious targets than a bill that passed the House over summer. By 2050, greenhouse gas emissions would be reduced by 80 percent from 2005 levels.
Sponsoring a bill is the easy part. The hard part is next, as Boxer tries to fend off many Republicans and some Democrats who oppose the legislation, saying it would be too costly, particularly in tough times.
Opponents are ready for battle, saying Boxer and Kerry are out to impose a new national tax on energy.
"The national energy tax was a terrible idea when it passed the House, and it is an even worse idea now," said House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio.

PS-Dennis Prager decided not to run because he didn't want his personal life open for ridicule. Not that his personal life has been embarrassing, just that Republicans are always subjected to a particularly rough colonoscopy in every political race.
Sounds like Mr. Boxer is due to profit handsomely from this scam.
There was a thread on it yesterday:
California NRSC Tells Larry Elder Not To Run Against Boxer, Instead They Pick A Sure Loser
Or like an abortion maybe?
Sorry - I don't agree with your second part. Highlighting that difference will only hasten the revolution, and they likely will know that. They want to PROFIT from the trading of carbon credits (cf Algore) so that their lifestyles are different (better) for sure. The first part of your response is spot on.
“What a great day!” enthused the senator. “This is like giving birth again!”

Does not compute...
The day was a punishment ???????????
This will be the death of us.
You do have to kind of “get in their brain” to see if they see the threat of revolution as an issue of more significance than their desire to be seen as superior.
That is "U.S. to cut _ITS_ greenhouse gas emissions" so that there would be more fuel for China. It seems that China owns the U.S. already.
“Boxer is a lunatic and that a given. Whats downright shameful is that Cornyn and the GOP refuse to back Larry Elder in an effort to unseat her.”
Correct on both counts.
Boxer giving birth? There’s an image that will drive many to heavy drink in an effort to wash away.
She could start by telling Mickey Belle to stay home and not go flying jets all over the planet on a whim.
What rough beast, its hour come round at last
slouches toward Bethlehem to be born...
My bet is she still wins. Anyone who would send her to DC in the first place is pretty darn stupid!
She will lose next year, she is a tragedy and a zit on the rear of American politics.
Billions of dollars ripped from the coffers of the rich countries and showered on the developing nations, industries crippled, carbon sacrificing, electricity plants shut down, etc., etc., etc. .....based on 12 trees somewhere in Russia?
It's almost laughable, if it weren't so sickening. Is it just me....or have we been had?
Can we get Boxer’s thoughts on the carbon footprint left by Barry and Michelle in their utilization of not just Air Force One, but Air Force Two on their Olympic bid trip to Copenhagen......
She is Senator Inhofe’s #1 target. He has been bugging her forever and it is about to get a lot worse for Boxer. She won’t even ride in the same elevator with my Senator which I think is hilarious.
