Using the latest photo of 9/12,taken from the top of the capitol, we can begin to do some comparisons with historical photos.

Top: 9/12 taxpayer rally.
Above: MLK "I have a dream" speech. Estimated for that one, 250,000.
Below: Aerial view of the Mall.

The MLK speech was at the far end (top of picture) between the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument.
The 9/12 rally was at the near end, between the capitol and the Washington Monument.
The latter space is, as you can see, quite a bit larger.
TOPICS: Culture/Society
KEYWORDS: 912; 912project; crowd; mlk; rally

It is kind of hard to compare because you can't see the full width of the MLK photo while the 9/12 image shows that it appears the width extends beyond Independence Ave to the South and Constitution to the North. At that, it looks like Constitution and Independence were both full on the 9/12 image, at least back to 7th street.
Here is a satellite image of the Obama Inauguration which had an estamate of 2 million people.

As you can see, although it looked packed from the ground, it was very sectionalized. (a giant version here: http://www.farhadmanjoo.com/ObamaInaugurationHighRes.jpg )

Thanks. So we say “at least as big as King’s “I have a Dream” speech... here is the photo comparison.
And here is the historical comparison. Both marked the emergence of long simmering movements that required to fundamentally change the established order.
“The Dream” eventually did away with Jim Crow, and ushered in voting and civil rights for all Americans. In a similar way “9/12” marks the beginning of a movement that will transform America and do away with oversized, broken, nanny state government that rewards the super rich, politially connected, and favored minorities while punishing average Americans and bankrupting the country.
The corrupt current day system has to go, just as much as Lestor Maddox had to go in 1963.

Consider that the 9/12 marchers had a permit for a street march, not the mall, so mall shots will show only a fraction of the 9/12 crowd.
The distance between the White House and the Capitol is 1.9 miles, and the procession continued for three hours. There are more wonderful pictures at this link from glennbeck.com. Please take time to view the final video from sophiaelena.com. It shows the parade in fast forward, with the throngs of marchers passing a stationary camera.

I noticed that is low-res. I’d love a high-res to print out and hang across my 15 foot office wall.

Next time we will have to have 5 or 6 million and flat shut DC down so the Brown Shirt Media will "hear us." The best estimate of numbers comes from the cam that showed folks marching for 3 hours down 8 lanes for 1.9 miles. That has to be close to two million.

We cannot forget to count the people who couldn't make it to DC and gathered in their individual states.
Here is a good summary of the march.
