GOP voters and the constitution - where do we go from here?
me

Posted on 09/14/2009 2:39:28 PM PDT by IntolerantOfTreason

I'm going to broach a taboo subject that I've not noticed many FRiends willing to touch, so brace yourself and consider yourself warned.

I'm a conservative, and proud of it. For most of my life I have voted Republican pretty much wherever it counts. If we take an international definition of conservatism, it includes limited government and solid moral values. In the USA, it includes standing by the Constitution, as a necessary prerequisite to those first two. And it is this final point where the GOP has let us down - I support the constitution, where they have recently been paying only lip service, and I'll admit to strong feelings of bitterness, so please forgive my tone.

The constitution is very very straightforward about the requirements for the President to be a Natural Born Citizen, and the usurper through his actions has been very straightforward in his intent to defy this requirement. Over $1mill spent on lawyers to hide a simple piece of paper that the Constitution requires that we see!? And what does the GOP do? Nothing. I'm not going to revisit the varying levels of scorn or outright cold-shouldering we've had from our "own side", I think I'd find it hard to stomach. They have standing, they have the political clout, and they have the means to save this country from the Kenyan usurper. But they do nothing.

So to get to the point; the GOP will not be getting my vote for the forseeable future, it is an anathamae to conservatism as I see it. Perhaps we at Freerepublic can agree on a suitable alternative party that truly embodies conservatism. I for one certainly do not plan to give up my vote! Where do we go from here?

And once again, let me apolgise for my bitter tone, it was very difficult to write this, and it took me the better part of an hour to compose my thoughts in a coherent fashion. This was the best I could do.

Actually, while the Constitution requires the President be NBC, it does not specify any mechanism by which he proves his eligibility. In all likelihood the Founders assumed the electors would never vote for someone who hadn't shown he was eligible.

Which just goes to show even the Founders sometimes underestimated human gullibility.

I sympathize with your bitterness, but you should be aware that similar anger at the GOP had some significant contribution to Obama’s being elected.

IOW, destroying the US to punish the GOP might not be a wise strategy.

Rush suggested that the next “Tea Party” should be outside the studios of CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN and/or MSNBC.

Don’t protest the media. Protest against Washington Politicians right under their very noses. That way they would really have a hard time ignoring what is going on.

Leaving the GOP at this time to support some third party would just guarantee giving permanent power to Obama and the Democrats. If you sit around and wait for the GOP to get conservative on its own, then shame on you!
Do like I and many others have done. Visit your local GOP HQ and get involved at the grassroots level. You’ll be surprised at the opportunities available to anyone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and do some work. Enough of us will change the face of the party. We’ve done it here. Our County GOP has become conservative and very active, and the RINOs who previously held power have been pushed aside.
Being a conservative activist is more than listening to Rush and posting on FR and voting...it involves WORK, and sometimes sticking your neck out!

I understand your feelings but IMO we need to take back control of the GOP and direct it down a strictly conservative path. Third parties don’t win elections.

I also think we need to take a very hard look at Term Limits. Term limits is the only way to keep those that we do support from straying into “do anything to stay in office” mode.

Rush had a caller, today, who took issue with his spin that the D.C march was against Democrats, not Republicans. Besides being mad at Republicans for their lack of spine and disappointment during Bush’s term, she wondered aloud to Rush if we shouldn’t go third party.

Rush, as you would expect, disagreed with going third party. In fact, Rush says on one hand he’s mad at Republicans, but on the other there is a difference between them and Democrats. Curiously, when he tried to describe Obama, he used every term except the most accurate one - Marxist. Actually, Rush calls Obama a fascist. When Obama tries to nationalize 1/6th of the economy that isn’t fascism, that’s Marxism. When the government takes over GM and Chrysler that isn’t fascism, that is Marxism. Corporate execs (profit and non-profit) buying favorable policy to the exclusion of their competitors and the American people with campaign donations facilitated through lobbyists is fascism, not capitalism.

Anyway, Rush won’t go third party, but perhaps we can enlist his help in spotlighting Republicans who need to be defeated, rather than carrying water for the Republican party as a whole? Obama is setting up his party for a huge rout in ‘10, but unless we can excise the neo-con-RINO cancer from the party, we will squander a huge opportunity in ‘10 and ‘12.

I think I should have gone into more detail; I _have_ attempted to get this issue out there at a grassroots level. Letter writing, participating in local conservative online forums, attending public meetings etc. . The best outcome I got out of any was to be ignored. Elsewhere I was referred to as “misguided”, and that’s one of the kindest terms I heard. I have it on good authority that I’m referred to as a “nut” in certain circles of state-level politics as well.

So can you see why I’m bitter? This isn’t our party any more. This is the party that wants to stay moderate and not rock the boat, the party that believes everything it sees in the MSM.

We have a two party system. The two major parties keep it that way. Voting third party is just self abuse and gets rats elected. When was the last time a third party got a single electoral vote? Who cares? The answer is to reform the GOP. The Marxist Left spent decades to take over the rat party. Flush out the rinos, implement Mark Levin’s Conservative Manifesto, we can retake the GOP. The last thing conservatives need is another third party to split our vote.

Below are the conservative leaning parties from a wiki response to “third parties.”

Constitution Party - socially conservative, fiscally conservative
Green Party - socially progressive, fiscally liberal
Libertarian Party - socially liberal, fiscally conservative

Smaller parties by ideology
Right-wing
America First Party - socially conservative, fiscally conservative
America’s Independent Party
The American Party
American Patriot Party
Independent American Party
Prohibition Party

State-only parties
Conservative Party of New York
New York State Right to Life Party

Honestly, Rush is just the voice of the GOP anymore. Glenn Beck has overtaken him in importance to the fight IMO. He’s what Rush was in 93-94.

Considering the choices we had, I’m willing to bet that not much would actually have changed except rhetoric. And the Dems would be ready to completely take over the congress in 2010 instead of losing massive seats.

We must keep supporting one another and our tea parties and writing to our Congressmen until something breaks with the courts, or we initiate the final solution. Today I sent to five congressmen copies of WND.com’s article about Pelosi’s election fraud, Newsmax.com’s article “Obama had close ties..” 9/3/08, “Death Panels are in Stimulus Bill” Am. Thinker, 8/15/09, and “Alinsky, Beck, Satan and Me,” by David Horowitz, newsrealblog.com, 8/16/09.

I made up a letter: Dear__, Thanks for an interview for your new CEO, but I insist you follow these rules: 1. I refuse to provide my full birth certificate, 2. I refuse to provide college transcripts, 3. I refuse to show my passport, 4. I refuse to be called a commie and a liar, 5. I refuse to provide selective service info, and 6. I refuse to declare aka’s. If these concern you—see my DNC attorney who assures me the organization will guarantee hiring. They do not like white racists and will call you out. I stand for hope, change and lots of kool-aid. I will tell you who I really am when it is too late.
Silly yes, but maybe something will stick with someone. Don’t quit.

I’ll vote for Republicans ONLY if they get off their *sses and fight.

So far, they’ve done nothing. Which leads me to believe that either they are in on it, or they are worthless.

I’m not voting for the ‘least of evils’ EVER AGAIN.

If the Republican leadership doesn’t fight then I’m out.

I’m done with the whole mess.

If Americans support people like this then they probably cannot take care of themselves and will indeed require a master to show them the way.

If they want socialism then let them have it. I’m in a position to take care of me and mine. To hell with the ignorant.

At least one million people showed up in D.C. for the ‘Tea Party’ and where is the leadership to support them? Why aren’t they rubbing the Dems’ nose in it?

Instead they remain safe and silent, let the relatively powerless American individual twist-in-the-wind, and worst of all allow the press to ignore and/or marginalize the protests.

But aren’t they so well-mannered, rid

They are part of this self-loathing attack on the US, or they are worthless.

Either way I’m done.

I don’t see where McCain would have done much different than Obama - just classier and not so much in your face.

McCain is no supporter of free speech (McCain-Feingold), has pushed aggressively for amnesty, loves illegal aliens, is for Cap and Trade, is for Bailouts, is no friend of the second amendment(the NRA very reluctantly endorsed him), would not secure our borders, has no problem with big spending government, would twist himself into a pretzel ‘reaching across the aisle’, and thinks Obama is doing a hunky-dory job. Soros had his hooks into MCain also via the Reform Institute.

The Rhinos who run and distribute monies for the Republican party have been bought and paid for just as thoroughly as the Rats. There are at best a handful of Republicans in the House and Senate who are worth voting for.

Unfortunately that's a common response. I suspect those who have not experienced it, have trouble believing the two party system is merely an illusion at this point in time.

As I posted above, based on his history I don't see McCain doing much different from Obama, just being classier and not so in your face. And ... McCain would be forgiven more than Zero because he was 1. republican, 2. not Zero, and 3. and the delusion that 'since he's republican we can get him to listen and act on our concerns'.

Wrong! Putting a liberal on the top of GOP ticket did that.
