The purpose of this thread is to secure a commitment from each local Principal to provide an opt-out so that no one is forced to endure Obama's subtle, presumptuous speech. Below, I will provide a sample of reasonable letters we want the Principal to sign. If refused, we know where they stand and will take the appropriate action against them. Here is an article of how they roll in Colorado. http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2009/09/douglas_county_school_allows_p.php It would be useful if the only comments on this thread are how to do this, report your results and contact information for the press to report and follow-up on.
Yes. It's K-12.
I'm going to ask mine if they'd like to stay home. Even if it's not televised, it doesn't mean some liberalizing teacher won't decide its 'historic' enough or 'relevant' enough to bring it into the lesson plan.
I almost wish mine were eager to take an approved hooky day, but they don't like doing all the make-up work.
If nothing else, I'll thoroughly discuss the Presidential Propaganda speech with them over the weekend. It can be a continuation of our discussion of the political similarities between Zero and Hitler. This will fit right in.
Keep the kids home.
En masse. Even elementary. Punish their pocket books.
“Just one problem with that picture, the guy with the obama sash needs to be holding a stick of broccoli instead, since they are anti gun.”
They are only anti-gun for you and me.
They can have guns.
I understand the sentiment. But how does this hurt their pocketbooks?
Either dont go to school OR go to school as parents WITH THE CHILDREN and demand to be in the classroom when/if an Obama message is shown. Either way, they lose.
Maybe the schools could run something like Bill Nye the Science Guy instead of Big Brother Obama.
” disagree. If this is not shut down now, Dear Leader will have monthly talks to the children.”
BINGO. Stay home.
It’s the most dangerous to run 0bama propaganda in the high schools since these kids can vote in the 2012 election!
I also heard in Massachusetts that some kids got homework assignments over the summer to read 0bama’s autobiography (the one written by Bill Ayers).
VAN JONES????
Nah, all they care about is money.
No kids, no money.
You couldn’t teach the marxist that run schools anything by being there.
I emailed both the teachers and the principal for my daughters’ school and they said that they will not allow any politics in their classrooms and will not force my daughters to participate. I told them if they are required expect my daughters to be absent from school on September 8th.
We have received notice from the U.S. Department of Education that President Obama will deliver an address to students on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 12:00 noon. The address will be broadcast live on the White House website, www.whitehouse.gov . According to the press release, The President will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning. He will also call for a shared responsibility and commitment on the part of students, parents and educators to ensure that every child in every school receives the best education possible so they can compete in the global economy for good jobs and live rewarding and productive lives as American citizens.
This address is receiving a lot of attention in the media, both positive and negative. Our understanding is that the address will be archived on the White House website for students and families to view at their convenience if they so desire. Therefore, schools should not alter their schedules so that each student may view the address, and teachers are not required to interrupt their lessons to show the broadcast. However, if a teacher chooses to incorporate the presidential address into his or her lesson, the teacher should inform his or her students and their parents by this Friday, September 4, 2009 of the plan to view the address in class on Tuesday. If a parent or guardian does not want his or her child to view the address, or if a student over 18 does not want to view the address, the student will be excused from the class.
I swear, this Obama is going to split this country right down the middle (more actually 70/30, with 70 % on the patriot side) into potential cultural, if not civil war. This guy is REALLY bad news.
Parents, Not good enough! Kids don't want to be ostracized and go to another room when the rest of the kids sit there in the room absorbing BHO's words. Given a choice to go to Study Hall, or brainlessly watch a video, which do you think they will "choose"? DUH... MY message to the principal is plain and simple: "IF you show Mr. Obama's speech on Tuesday, my children and likely hundreds of other children may be sick that day. The school district will loose TENS of THOUSANDS of dollars from non-attendance. If the speech is re-broadcast at a later date without my notification, I pledge that I will do everything in my power to help elect a new school board superintendent next year. |
Still that way in Wisconsin.
It’s the best tool a parent has..keep them out, the school loses money. Pocket book pain.
Stop the propaganda!
I have a very good relationship with all of the staff at the school. They like me.
I’ll be talking with the principal today about this.
Luckily, I can say that I read about it on the 9news website -so she won’t think it’s just some internet rumor from some right-wing site. It’s better to act neutral about these things to get their guards down from the start.
Strategery...
I just called my son’s school to see if they were going to be participating in this fiasco. I talked to the secretary who our family has known for years (3 kids spaced going through the school) and she told me they were having a meeting with all the principles going on right now in the district to determine if they will let him be shown or not.
She was surprised, I was only the second call in two days who inquired about this. She asked me to call her back at 2 and she would have an answer for me. She said the biggest problem they were having is not knowing what will be said. If it’s just “stay in school, think of your future, have a good year and be smart” that is one thing, but no one knows what will really be the topic here, which she flat out said (and is a comfort to me) that they will probably not allow it to be shown unless they can approve of it first.
Man I like living in a conservative small town.
