Stevie Nicks's Band of Soldiers
Monsters and Critics ^ | Larry Rodgers

Posted on 08/22/2009 1:51:07 PM PDT by AmericanSphinx71

In late 2004, Nicks began visiting Army and Navy medical centers in Washington, D.C. While visiting wounded service men and women, Nicks became determined to find an object she could leave with each soldier that would raise their spirits, motivate, and give them something to look forward to each day. She eventually decided to purchase hundreds of iPod Nanos, load them with music, artists, and play-lists which she would hand select, and autograph them. She now regularly delivers these tokens of her appreciation, bringing her closest friends to share the experience.

In 2006, Nicks held a get-together to raise money for her charity work. Many of her peers made contributions. Nicks continues to develop this philanthropic endeavor.[48]

“ I call it a soldiers' iPod. It has all the crazy stuff that I listen to, and my collections I've been making since the '70s for going on the road, when I'm sick...Or the couple of times in my life that I have really been down, music is what always dances me out of bed. „ —Stevie Nicks, The Arizona Republic

“ So, as Mick [Fleetwood] and I went from room to room delivering their tiny iPod, they told us their stories. Mick became his tall, loving, father figure, English self, taking in every word they said, remaining calm (at least on the outside) inspiring them. We floated from room to room down thru the halls of the 2 hospitals over a three-day period. We gave out all our iPods. Right before I left for D.C., Stephen Tyler and Joe Perry dug into their pockets and came up with $10,000 for me. In my eyes they went from the coolest rock stars to generous great men; as my press agent Liz Rosenberg said, every returning wounded soldier should be given an iPod. It will be an integral part of their recovery.„ —Stevie Nicks, Journal Entry

Good find! I have always loved Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. I’m glad she’s matured and is doing good things for out troops.

We have seen her live in concert her in Oz and, even in midst of the anti-American sentiment on the Iraqi war, she didn't make any anti-Bush or political comments on stage. Besides being extemely talented, she is not as stupid as other entertainers.

As far as I’m concerned, Fleetwood Mac began when Christine McVie came on board. I like Stevie and Lindsey just fine but I do wish some of Christine’s early solos got some play.

Stevie's "Landslide" w/only Lindsey on acoustic guitar on "The Dance" DVD is absolutely amazing in performance, their "eye communication" during the song and their comments at end.

Also loved Lindsey's "The Chain" performed with Little Big Town - another amazing performance - wish it was available on CD or DVD!

... most of us would never have heard of Fleetwood Mac."

I'll take the old Blues band with Peter Green any day over the "pop" band they became.

I don’t see a single Bible verse on this thread. Nor do I see anyone asking about her position on abortion. I only see two posts that could be construed as anything but strong support for Nicks, in spite of her politics (which aren’t as left as most would assume).

Perhaps these intolerant “purists” aren’t as rampant around here as you think. Maybe you just think all Christians act that way and feel the need to reinforce that stereotype as often as possible.

I don’t know a thing about her politics, but I’ll bet anything she will probably come down more libertarian than she even knows.
But all the politics aside, she’s giving back to those who sacrifice all on the “altar of freedom”, and she recognizes that there is something out there larger than herself to be cherished. Politics does not even come into play where that is concerned.

Thus the reason we don't see the "purists" attempting to beat up on her. Also, pointing out the modus operandi early in the thread helps keep out the troublemakers.

You are correct. The mods have done a nice job.

Maybe you just think all Christians act that way and feel the need to reinforce that stereotype as often as possible.

Or just maybe, as a Christian, I'm tired of making excuses for the intolerant ones.

Thus the reason we don't see the "purists" attempting to beat up on her.

The reason Christians aren't here bashing her is because she did something decent for the men and women who protect the United States. It's that simple.

Also, pointing out the modus operandi early in the thread helps keep out the troublemakers.

One post sends these intractable troublemakers and their messages of damnation running for the tall grass? They must not be very persistent. You should try working some of that magic on the jihadists.

She lost 60 lbs for her 60th birthday this year.

Hey, now there's a great goal for me! I'd like to lose 57 pounds by my 57th birthday. I have almost 11 months to do it, so that should work out great! If I lose even more, that would be better!!

Donovan, George, and Eric each wrote at least one song about Jenny

I always thought Eric Clapton's song, "Layla", was about Jenny.

No, that was Patty, who was married to George Harrison, and who left him for Eric Clapton, wasn’t it?

It Was as was Donovan's "Jennifer Jupiter", George Harrison's, "Something" and others by Clapton.
