Lieutenant Colonel Allen West (US Army, Retired) was born and raised in Atlanta Georgia and is third of four generations of military servicemen in his family. His parents instilled in him a very basic principle, love of God and Country. In 2004, when it was time to retire from more than twenty years of service in the US Army, he brought his wife and two young daughters to Broward County, Florida, where he taught high school for one year. He then returned to Afghanistan as an advisor to the Afghan army, an assignment he finished in November 2007.
Allen West received his Bachelors degree from University of Tennessee and Masters degree from Kansas State University, both in political science. He also holds a Master of Military Arts and Sciences from the US Army Command and General Staff Officer College in political theory and military operations.
"Education is the great equalizer," he says. "With a good education, any child in America can live his dream."
Allen West knows that for our children to live their dreams, they need to be safe. He has served in several combat zones: in Operation Desert Storm, in Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he was battalion commander for the Army's 4th Infantry Division, and in Afghanistan, where he trained Afghan officers to take on the responsibility of securing their own country.
In his Army career, Col. West has been honored many times, including a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals (one with Valor), and a Valorous Unit Award. He received his valor award as a Captain in Desert Shield/Storm, was the US Army ROTC Instructor of the Year in 1993, and was a Distinguished Honor Graduate III Corps Assault School. He proudly wears the Army Master parachutist badge, Air Assault badge, Navy/Marine Corps parachutist insignia, Italian parachutist wings, and German proficiency badge (Bronze award).
Allen is an avid distance runner, a PADI Master certified SCUBA diver, motorcyclist, and attends Community Christian Church in Tamarac Florida.
Excellence is a West family tradition. His wife, Angela, holds an MBA and PhD. and works as a financial planner. His oldest daughter, Aubrey, attends Archbishop McCarthy HS and his youngest daughter, Austen, attends Parkway Christian School.

Reserve your room at the Sheraton National here!
Our FR banqueteers will have ringside seats when the talk show star of radio station WOR, New York, steps up to our freeper microphone! Here some little excerpted peeks into the musings emanating from his consideral cerebral power:
STEVE (on watching a Little League game on the Fourth of July): "As I watched my son holding his sparkler, I suddenly cringed as a wave of panic swept through my mind and body. You see, I know too much, and the others, most Americans, not enough.
"As I looked at my son and his buddies, I couldn't help but fear for their futures - and my future, and the future of our great nation."
STEVE (on Obama): "As America celebrated her birthday, the man sitting in the White House was busy plotting his course in his quest to fundamentally change our nation, our policies - both foreign and domestic - and by doing so, our cherished way of life."
STEVE (on unemployment): "I looked around at the parents of the kids on the baseball team and wondered just how many of them - of us, really - may be among the next batch of the half million Americans who are losing their jobs each month. I wondered how many of us would eventually be unable to give our kids summer baseball, summer camp, a bike, a video game......once (Obama's) taxes start to kick in.
"If Mr. Obama succeeds, look for the unemployment rate to soar through double digits. This is what he wants. He has already DESTROYED untold wealth in this country. All his new taxes will nearly complete his mission. What is the mission? To force as many of us as possible to turn to the government for our very survival. That's what Mr. Obama is advocating. That's who he is."
STEVE (on terrorism, apologies, the essence of our nation): "Are we prepared to have our children's lives put at risk by a president who no longer sees a 'war on terror'? Are we prepared for a president who tours the world assuring one and all that there is nothing special about the United States, that we have a tarnished history and that we are JUST ANOTHER ONE OF MANY nations?
"Are we prepared to tell our kids that Mr. Obama was correct when he told the Muslim world that we are NOT a nation of Christians, Jews and Muslims, but rather a nation of CITIZENS?
"I bet the parents in my little town of Fair Lawn, New Jersey would say, 'No' to this and 'No' to Mr. Obama's vision of America.
"IF ONLY THEY KNEW WHAT HIS VISION IS!"
Freepers, meet and greet Steve Malzberg in person in the friendly confines of our FR Convention banquet room. His photo and bio are at the top of this thread along with those of our other two SUPER-LUMINARY GUEST SPEAKERS!

Tuesday bump
ONLY THREE DAYS LEFT TO BOOK A ROOM AT THE SHERATON AT OUR GREAT FREE REPUBLIC GROUP RATE!
After August 21st, our group rate of #116 will not be available! If you are planning stay at the Sheraton you need to book your room by this coming Friday to take advantage of the group rate!
See you all in DC!
I just tried to make reservations at the Sheraton and it said no rooms were available! Is that true or are they having problems with their site again?
Okay, since the web site for the hotel said it was sold out, I called them this morning and spoke to someone in sales. She said they were adding more rooms to the block, and she went ahead and took my reservation. Whew! I was really sweating it there! So if anyone else has trouble with the website, call the hotel directly.
We have had nothing but problems with these reservations since day one - and you’re just more proof of it.
Glad you got through though. They’re telling us we have NOT met our quota but telling those who call for reservations that they are full.
I”m not a happy Freeper right now!!!
ANYONE WHO IS MAKING RESERVATIONS DO NOT USE THE WEBSITE PLEASE CALL THEM DIRECTLY
703) 521-1900 or 1.888.627.8210
I just love to attribute all errors to Mr. Scrivener....he's a handy guy to have around!
Leni
They still have not fixed your reservation?
damn typo’s...
August 11-13 is the date for the convention....
Sorry guys
They have; I am arriving the evening of the 7th and leaving on the 13th.
I was trying to be funny. LOL
Are there still people checking out on the 12th instead of the 13th?
I heard from four Freepers who have called the Sheraton and made sure their check out date was changed from 9/12 to 9/13 or later. They certainly were not planning on checking out on 9/12!

Hi, 50 y/o typical white woman from Maine seeking either someone to ride down with me, or ride, or any woman interested in sharing a room, will share all expenses.
I've got some good news, honey
An invite to a Convention hall
It's a very swell affair
Famous freepers will be there!
I'll wear my blue jeans, red shirt, my freeper cap
You'll wear your sparkly flag earrings like a femme fatale
Ain't no doubt about it, babe
We'll be the best-dressed in the hall
So, I'll be down to getcha in my hybrid, honey
You better be ready 'bout quarter to eight
Now, dearie, don't be late
I wanna get there when the Anthem's playin'
Remember when we get there, honey
The speakers I''m gonna hear them all
I'm gonna jump up from my seat
I'm gonna cheer the Left's defeat
In September at the Freep Convention hall
There'll be freepers from across the fruited land
Who'll gather in a patriotic band
We'll congregate, be up too late, meet lots of folks
And don't forget we'll hear those Jackie Mason jokes!
So make sure you're ready when I get there, honey
The Freepers, I wanna meet them all
Gonna wear my best new shoes
Gonna lose those Obama blues
In September at the Freep Convention hall!
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, HOO YAH!
