Mormon leader to bring family records to Obama (hmmmmm)

President Obama Monday is hosting the leader of the Mormon church at the White House, who will present the president with detailed volumes of Mr. Obama's family history.

Press aides said Latter-Day Saints Church President Thomas Monson and Elder Dallin Oaks, chairman of the LDS Church genealogical committee, will be there. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat and a Mormon, arranged the meeting and also will attend.

"LDS Church leadership has met with previous presidents and presented them with genealogical records detailing their family history," White House aides said.

A source said the church will present Mr. Obama with five large leather-bound volumes that go back through generations of the president's family. Mr. Obama's father was born in Kenya. His mother Stanley Ann Dunham was from Kansas.

The meeting, to take place in the Oval Office on Monday afternoon, is closed to the press and was first announced Sunday night.

How far does it go before ending up in primordial soup or a greasy spot somewhere in Africa?

LDS Family Search

All one has to do is go to their site and fill out the information.

What comes out is as good as what a person puts in. Anyone can fill in information and I have seen several different birthdates or death dates of an individual put in by different people who were just guessing.

Genealogical records are only as good as the research and data that go into them. There are often errors and omissions that need correction as the research proceeds. These records have zero impact on the requirement to produce the long form birth certificate to prove eligibility. It's a garbage in/garbage out piece of work.

Projects like this usually start out with the church asking the person: Tell us the names, birth, and death information on your parents, and (if possible) your grandparents, and we will start there with our research. Anything in the gift books about Obama will be what Obama tells them. One cannot go to the church genealogy records for information about living people.

You know that, I know that but the way it will be spun is going to be an attempt to again ‘fool’ the foolish.

(speculation on my part.......or would that be classified as cynicism.......or maybe not.....just paranoid or rantings from an extremist)

Sadly, this is being done without actually knowing if Barry’s biological father was in fact Barack Obama, Sr. Is this sort of loose connection thing common with the geneologies doen by the Mormon Church? I would think DNA could be a help now that it is available. This ‘geneology’ is merely a conjecture.

Well, Obama could spin it, but the Mormons have always had a tremendous interest in genealogical records, because of their beliefs about baptism. And doing the President’s genealogy has become a tradition.

I doubt very much that they will get into the birth certificate question, one way or the other. It’s irrelevant to their take on genealogy.

I would not say it is irrelevant. I assume they much prefer to be accurate than mistaken.

Research data derives from birth certificates, baptismal records, confirmation records, death certificates, marriage records, headstones in cemeteries, family bibles, census records, immigration records, military services records, social security records. It's a broad compendium of sources. Most of it is fairly accurate. Some of it is inference and should be marked speculative until better information is available for confirmation. When errors are found, they should be corrected. My wife has made great strides in researching using ancestry.com. It's a great site for collaboration, but it is still necessary to do the best possible vetting of information before adding it to the databases.

The Morg is hurting financially in a big way...

They lost $600 Million on Benefincial Life, the Mall is costing $4 Billion, they had to give up some prime land in order to own the sidewalks of SLC..

Maybe a bailout is in the future for the “profit” and his business ???

. And, since we can only based our research on public records, the Mormon church cannot “establish” Obama’s citizenship.
_______________________________________

Just how “public” are the lists of unproven names that the LDS members turn in for brownie points and dead dunking ???

The pressure to supply names is so great that people go through cemeteries getting names and dates from the tombstones of people who are not their relatives....

Just how many mormons were related to Stanley Ann Durham ???

Or Hitler ???

Or George Washington ???

Just because the stats of some person is listed in the IGI does not qualify as a “public record” of the person named...

The LDS records are unreliable and not regularly checked for errors..
