Defense Secretary Robert Gates expressed confidence on Tuesday that the United States could shoot down any North Korean missile fired toward America.
Gates told US lawmakers at a hearing Tuesday that the US would have a "high probability of being able to defend ourselves" if the North fired a long-range missile.

The US has the technology to shoot down the missiles. President Reagan saw to that. It lacks the resolve to shoot down the missiles. President Obama saw to that.

At this time, I would be inclined to say it’s way too premature to be worried about NK launching a missile our way.
It’s not like you head down to WallyWorld and pick yerself up a ballistic missile inertial guidance system.
If they did try a launch against Seattle, it would be considered a blazing success if they hit Caracas, Venezuela!
You and me both, man. It would boost the odds if we flew over at night and just bombed the 12 places in the whole country that have lights on. That would probably significantly diminish the threat from their “dear leader”.

Uhhh... Mr. Gates — Bill, Robert, whatever your name is — it might be a good idea to FUND the airborne laser aircraft, AND get the prototype in the air over South Korea. You might also want to deploy the Navy’s floating RADAR platform & get the Aegis Cruisers into position before making such a boast. Because from where I’m sitting the ONLY thing we have that might operate at a moment’s notice is the ABM Missiles up in Alaska. While they may be adequate it’s only a single line of defense. What happens if you miss?
Noticed that myself. "Defend ourselves" is not the same thing as "shoot down the missile."
Talk is cheap, prove it. I doubt “president pantywaist” as he has been dubbed by the British press has the testicular fortitude to do anything but use harsh language because when all is said and done he is an inexperiened coward.

Didn’t he say during the last test of a NK ICBM, back in April, that it wasn’t all that certain we could hit their missles? Now he is certain? I can’t remember his exact quote but he didn’t sound all that convincing then and I don’t know whether to believe him now. At any rate Bozo is cutting funding for Missile defense.
