"Fr. Norm" - 80-Year-Old Priest Arrsted, Jailed at Notre Dame

Here is the video of Fr. Norm Weslin's arrest by University of Notre Dame police. He was carrying a cross and singing a hymn in honor of the mother of Jesus Christ ---"Our Lady" -- "Notre Dame."

What evil deed did they think he was going to do if they didn't arrest him: launch a devastatng, full-scale Rosary barrage?

As Father said. “They’ve got it all backwards.”

They like it all backwards. They think doing things backward is innovative and creative.

Being Pro-Life still includes CHOICES to be made — to raise the child, or to place the child for adoption.

The only “choice” Pro-Lifers do not approve of is the choice of abortion/murder.

I hope this explains it — it’s how I see it at least...

I recently re-sized the picture - sorry the words are a bit blurry now...

I'm an Anglican teaching in a Jesuit school. The Priests and Brothers impress me every day with the way they live their lives in the service of God and man.

A sense of humour too - I'm sure you've heard this one but it was new to me.

A Franciscan and a Dominican were debating about whose order was the greater. After months of arguing, they decided to ask for an answer from God when they died. Years later, they met in heaven and decided to go to the throne of God to resolve their old disagreement. God seemed a bit puzzled about the question and told them he would reply in writing a few days later. After much deliberation, God sent the following letter:

My beloved children,

Please stop bickering about such trivial matters. Both of your orders are equally great and good in my eyes.

Sincerely yours,

God, S.J.

That was an injustice what they did to that elderly priest. I saw it on the news. Some day these people are going to be very sorry for what they have done. Hopefully they will have time to repent before the Judgment.

Meanwhile, I do think some people have gotten this thing confused. It’s not that Obama is merely SPEAKING at Notre Dame but they are giving him the honorary degree. Why would they give anyone supporting the FOCA an honorary degree. Speech is one thing.

thanks for the ping. I was trying to find video of this last night and couldn’t connect to any of them. It is heartbreaking to see them arrest this 80 year old priest.

When a Catholic priest gets arrested on a Catholic University campus, for standing up for Catholic values (while presenting absolutely zero danger to himself or others around him).

Something is completely wrong...

That puts it into perspective. Maybe the alums is the way to go.

Notre Dame is swimming in endowment assets, although it seems they took a big hit, like everyone else in the market, since last year. It might take a while for the loss of future alumni donations to take effect. But, alums will have a clearer choice from here on out on how they want to invest any donations.

Fresh off of two semesters of Church History... that is way beyond splitting hairs... The Jesuits are who? They are a religious order of the Catholic Church. There were in history, quite literally, the foot soldiers of the Pope. They were, to make a long story short, established to fight against the sweeping Protestant Reformation.

Bernard wrote: From my experience, if you ask a Jesuit, "Are you a Jesuit first, or a Catholic first?", there would be a pause, regardless of what the verbal response would be.

To which thefrankbaum replied: Possibly because they subsist in one another. If I asked you "are you a patriot first, or an American first?" you'd probably pause as well. Sorry, but, as the product of eight years of Jesuit education, I feel the need to defend the Society at times.

You have indeed had a Jesuit education. A patriot defends his country - any country, while an American is a member of a specific country. Likewise, a Catholic is a member of specific religion, while a Jesuit (in your analogy) is a defender of their faith - but which faith is not addressed.

So what you really did was reply in a way that sounded like a rebuttal, while you merely reaffirmed the poster's statement.

How perfectly Jesuitical of you.

There were military vehicles used at Branch Davidian Home in WACO.

How fast we forget.

The ABC Chicago news affiliate also reported on this tonight. They described demonstrators “scrambling” with police and showed a brief edit of this video as the priest was going down to the ground. They added their editorial comment that George Bush also spoke at a Notre Dame commencement and altho he was pro-life, as governor of Texas he sanctioned capital punishment which is against Church Law. I hope someone more knowledgable about this can contact the station and let them know the distinctions in Church Law on these issues. And also let them know its about the Honorary Degree, not the speaking.

Seems beyond out of sorts that a Catholic priest would be arrested for trespassing at Notre Dame.

The liberal media acts as if the Catholic Church equates the murdering of innocent unborn children with the execution of murderers. It does not when the catechism states that Capital Punishment can be used for self-defense purposes.

I think you are right, both morally and under the private institution’s own charter. The university is proving that it is Catholic in name only, and it’s making the parents who send their children there aware that they, too, are participating in the ruse of Notre Dame being a Catholic institution. Its own Bishop feeling forced to boycott the commencement: what a shame.

And, too, Obama will thereafter cloak himself in the holy acceptance from a Catholic institution (is he even getting an honorary degree or other award from them?), and use it against some of the most holy Catholic principles. Does anyone in the University’s hierarchy even care?

"....it is a Jesuit university that most people identify as Catholic."

I think that you might be thinking of Georgetown University. Notre Dame is not a Jesuit institution.
