DHS: Statement by U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary
DHS ^ | 4/15/09 | DHS

Posted on 04/15/2009 12:18:38 PM PDT by angeliquemb9

Release Date: April 15, 2009

For Immediate Release Office of the Press Secretary Contact: 202-282-8010

The primary mission of this department is to prevent terrorist attacks on our nation. The document on right-wing extremism sent last week by this department’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis is one in an ongoing series of assessments to provide situational awareness to state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies on the phenomenon and trends of violent radicalization in the United States. I was briefed on the general topic, which is one that struck a nerve as someone personally involved in the Timothy McVeigh prosecution.

Let me be very clear: we monitor the risks of violent extremism taking root here in the United States. We don’t have the luxury of focusing our efforts on one group; we must protect the country from terrorism whether foreign or homegrown, and regardless of the ideology that motivates its violence.

We are on the lookout for criminal and terrorist activity but we do not – nor will we ever – monitor ideology or political beliefs. We take seriously our responsibility to protect the civil rights and liberties of the American people, including subjecting our activities to rigorous oversight from numerous internal and external sources.

I am aware of the letter from American Legion National Commander Rehbein, and my staff has already contacted him to set up a meeting next week once I return from travel. I will tell him face-to-face that we honor veterans at DHS and employ thousands across the department, up to and including the Deputy Secretary.

As the department responsible for protecting the homeland, DHS will continue to work with its state and local partners to prevent and protect against the potential threat to the United States associated with any rise in violent extremist activity.

Anyone who opposes this administration is an extremist. Welcome to the USSA.

For 8 years all we heard from these s***-birds was: “Dissent is patriotic!”
But now, anyone voicing objection to infanticide or supporting the Bill of Rights is a potential terrorist?
BLOAT!

That document says that they are planning to ban guns, pass “Hate Speech” legislation, give amnesty and citizenship to the illegals, appease our enemies, downsize our military, and raise our taxes to the hilt.

"...we do not – nor will we ever – monitor ideology or political beliefs."

Why am I not getting the warm and fuzzies after reading that?

Her “personal involvement” consisted in getting Michael Fortier and his wife to turn states’ evidence against McVeigh.

Of all the days for DHS to confirm their declaration that conservatives and veterans are to be presumed enemies of the country, they pick this one.

What a coincidence.

Every single US military veterans has taken an oath to defend the constitution.

Do Homeland security employees take a similar oath?

I'm guessing no. Since one of their first acts back in 2003 was to water down the oath for immigrants by adding a modifier which gives exception (bolded)

.....I pledge to support, honor, and be loyal to the United States, its Constitution, and its laws. Where and if lawfully required

>>....What a coincidence.

See previous post for text changes

They put an exception into the immigration oath on Sep. 17th "Citizenship Day" (which is the day the constitution was signed in 1787, Federal observance designated the constitution should be celbrated this day).

Why is it liberals and the Govt. are always doing the opposite of what they are saying?

She needs prosecuted ~ there are laws against the kind of targeting and profiling she demanded.

I'll not be satisfied until she's in the can.

who thinks that returning Veterans are a threat to our nation

This started with klintoons, with their distrust and dislike for our military, only the klintoons were smart enough to not be so “in your face” with it as does the HNIC and his minions.

This evening right after GB’s ALAMO show, we flipped over to see what PMSNBC was saying, if anything, about the Tea Parties. There was some lardass on OP ED who was really being slimy, add on the DHS “report”.

I have a theory, the libs are talking to their folks with all this. It is much more than “preaching to the choir”. First they clearly know we are never going to buy into their BS, BUT they must be sensing some similar feelings from some or many who supported ot maybe just stupidly voted oBOWma and the defamation/disinformation play is to convince “their people” to not join us. This CNN and PMSNBC sliming goes right along with trying to deny the Tea Party thing was BIG (and looks to have turned out bigger than we even imagined).

Has the report on “terrorist of the left” come out yet? I assume that will be out next week, right?
