Dentist's Protest Stirs a Tempest in a Tea Bag

By DAN TUOHY AND MARK HAYWARD
New Hampshire Union Leader

MANCHESTER – All Michael Yannetti wanted to do Monday was to protest the notion of Washington bailouts and $3.6 trillion in federal spending. So he did what thousands did across the country this week: mailed tea to their congressional representatives in protest.

Yesterday, police showed up at his door.

The green tea he had mailed to the Manchester office of Rep. Carol Shea-Porter prompted the evacuation of her office yesterday. Police and firefighters were at the downtown location for about 1 1/2 hours, securing the scene and conducting field tests for possible hazardous substances or volatile compounds.

Our local Congress-critter may have decided to make an example of an uppity Tea Party activist. "Chilled" tea or just stupidity? I report - you decide...

A stupid Congressional staffer probably saw it and called it in, thus setting the process in motion. Except for a few of the high-level people, most staffers are quite dim.

Dumb-ass should have sent a tea bag.

To be on the safe side...if you like that sort of thing...a protester can always mail a photograph of a tea bag. You might want to include a photo of tar and feathers, or pitchforks and torches, for emphasis.

True, but her staffers would have to be pretty dumb not to know tea when they saw it, especially now that Congresspersons have been getting it by the pound.

I don't know that a picture has quite the same impact.

Never mail tea to a hyphenated liberal.

She's still sore about not getting to be homecoming queen.

I've seen her in person. She looks like a liberal, hyphenated name and all.

I heartily agree. This ‘evacuation’ will be the reason to silence opposition. (”See how much trouble your tea bag protest caused!”says Congress)
Tea Bags are cute. But there needs to be action to back up the tax revolt! Rearrange your affairs to lower your tax liability is a good start!

“Anyone may arrange his affairs so that his taxes shall be as low as possible; he is not
bound to choose that pattern which best pays the treasury. There is not even a patriotic
duty to increase one’s taxes. Over and over again the Courts have said that there is
nothing sinister in
so arranging affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everyone does it,
rich and poor alike and all do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay
more than the law demands.”

(US Appeals Court Justice the Honourable Learned Hand)

If one teabag can shut down government for a day then it was worth it.

I don't know that a picture has quite the same impact.

I'm sure it does not. However, there's quite an impact when you get the bill for:

"Police and firefighters...at the downtown location for about 1 1/2 hours, securing the scene and conducting field tests for possible hazardous substances or volatile compounds."

Dumb-ass should have sent a tea bag.

He wrote "Tea Protest" on the front of the envelope. Proof that even when things are spelled out for them, Democrats are dumber than a box of rocks.

One could also take the tea, place it in a paper bag on the doorstep, proceed to incinerate it and ring the bell. There is no time to await fire dept personnel and the chump who responds to the doorbell has to stomp it out. I hear they used to do this with other substances back in the 20th century.

You are so right! However, it would need to be done in such a way that the sender could not be billed for expenses.

That does bring back some old Halloween memories, particularly now that the statute of limitations has run out...

As usual, I am a little slow at getting the point, but it appears to me that:

Tea bag protests are highly publicized and are going on by the thousands all over the country.

A tea bag is readily identifiable.

This mailing as identified as a tea bag protest.

Dims expect to get them.

THEREFORE: It seems to me that this person who turned in the alarm turned in a false alarm, knowing full well that it was a false alarm and is the person who should not only be charged the costs of the responders, but should also be criminally prosecuted for turning in a false alarm.

The hyphen IS a big give-away.

It shows contempt for tradition, a hallmark of liberalism.
