TAMPA - After President Barack Obama won the election, people flooded gun stores because of speculation that he may limit gun ownership or raise taxes on them. Even though neither has happened, the amount of people wanting to get their hands on a gun hasn't gone down. Scott Patrick is the General Manager of the Shoot Straight gun range in Tampa. He says the number of people coming into his store is still going up. "For whatever reason, whether it's the economy or crime, people don't feel safe," he said. Patrick is having serious trouble keeping all kinds of fire arms in stock, even holsters are often backordered. However, he says ammunition is what is really flying off store shelves. Ammo that sells for personal protection is as good as gold these days, and it's costing 30 to 40 percent more than it used to.

It appears to me now that a battle rifle and 400 rounds per capable household member might be appropriate in light of the intelligence level of some on this thread.
Publicly announcing your intent to hoard guns and ammo could just as well be an invitation to criminal gangs who would be interested in liberating your cache.
Should this depression deepen to the point where food becomes unaffordable we will see all manner of goods hitting the pawnshops and estate sales.
Absent a real escalation of internal hostilities, the market could be flooded with unused guns and hoards of ammo.
We will see in a few weeks just which way the compass is pointing.
Go for the 30.06 there's still some AP around and with a sleeve that is removable with a broken shell extractor It converts to .308.
Military calibers are usually easier to find after a fight. Remember "combat resupply rules".

Less taxation and intervention are the only cures for this mess.
The question is how we get there from here.
The "money supply" is up 70% since October. That is 35% real inflation in one year. The Treasury will not report inflation, but by printing money like candy, they are directly creating it.
There is no intention to protect any market at this point, the target is to beg, borrow or steal anything not bolted down as the ship sinks so they can switch to the Amero when America's sovereignty is scuttled along with the tatters of the Constitution.

Saying there might be panic buying isnt calling people “panic stricken fools”. And me saying “dont let the aholes get you down” is an expression, it isnt “calling freepers aholes”.
Bottom line, all the guy did was say he didnt think he needed alot of ammo and people went ape on him. I thought the guy was being attacked unreasonably and deserved some support. Look at how harshly you attacked me when I stood up for him. Unwarranted personal attacks, not honest disagreements are what will give gun owners a bad name.

No, he was calling us “paranoid” if we bought more than 2 boxes of ammo.
At least get the story right.
Shotguns and .40SW are nice, but if you have those bases covered, I would then move to a AR-15 pattern rifle and/or a 9mm pistol. Why? Well, the rifle obviously gives you options you wouldn't otherwise have, but both the things I suggest also benefit from the fact that ammo will be widely available from a variety of sources, no small consideration when things go badly.

As far as “ammo availability”, are you stating that .223 is more widely available than 7.62X39? That stuff is “ubiquitous”. And the firearms that use it are also.
I used redneck logic thinking 30 firearms in the canoe would make it more stable.
Needless to say it didn't work out.
Going to try it in the future with 40 . See what happens.
It's coming .... but most likely AFTER April 15th so people can't totally stick it to the government as a form of protest.

You might also want to think about a Concealed Handgun License if it is possible where you live. If not, you may want to move from the "not the best neighborhood" into a neighborhood where you can legally exercise your 2nd amendment rights.
CHL not possible. In the Land of Peasant Living you have to Know Somebody ("may issue" state, not "shall issue" state.).
Re: moving - as soon as the housing market recovers. I've seen properties around my neighborhood on the market for 2-3 years and not selling. Only one or two exceptions to that.
