TAMPA - After President Barack Obama won the election, people flooded gun stores because of speculation that he may limit gun ownership or raise taxes on them. Even though neither has happened, the amount of people wanting to get their hands on a gun hasn't gone down. Scott Patrick is the General Manager of the Shoot Straight gun range in Tampa. He says the number of people coming into his store is still going up. "For whatever reason, whether it's the economy or crime, people don't feel safe," he said. Patrick is having serious trouble keeping all kinds of fire arms in stock, even holsters are often backordered. However, he says ammunition is what is really flying off store shelves. Ammo that sells for personal protection is as good as gold these days, and it's costing 30 to 40 percent more than it used to.

I’m thinking seriously of picking up a couple more guns for home defense. I don’t live in the best neighborhood and should the flag really go up, I want to be able to protect myself and my family.
Do you have any recommendations?
OK, snowrip, you have a great point there.
What if? Just what if this depression gets so severe, regular people are forced to liquidate personal property including guns and ammo just to pay bills?
Could this selling provide a great buying opportunity for those patient enough to WAIT?

This is chicken little panic buying just like Y2K. Who do these buyers think they are going to be shooting? You need, at most, one gun and a couple boxes of ammo per capable household member. In seven months there will be an ocean of these panic goods at substantial discounts as people try to raise money to buy food and utilities.
I bought one box of ammo. It had 1,000 rounds of 5.56 NATO. Maybe I need another box. Will someone please convince my wife?
Remington 870 is probably one of the best buys, dollar for dollar.
JMHO.
Cheaper than dirt has some of the most expensive ammunition on the internet; they are regularly referred to as “More Expensive Than Gold” on some of the gun forums.
Try Wideners or Palmetto State Armory.
“Umm.... if you have guns, you can get food.”
You can get dead if it is my food your thinking of, but wild animals? How long do you think they’re going to last??
You're conjecturing 220,000,000 firearms in 6 or 8 months.
I'd be surprised if the combined arms-manufacturing capacity of the entire world could produce 220,000,000 firearms in less than a year.
A third-of-a-billion, maybe, but a half-billion? Probably not.
Yeah. I remember how all the animals went extinct last time people had to survive off of them.
I’ll look into it.
Thx.

I reread the thread. I see no reason to change my opinion.
“Yeah. I remember how all the animals went extinct last time people had to survive off of them.
“
When was that exactly?
Long after sarcasm died.
12 gauge shot gun and a .40 cal pistol.
My guess is that, because it requires only a quick conversation with the BATFE administrator (no new law or even executive order needed), Obama will have that agency use its authority to cut off imported ammunition in common military calibers (which just so happens to be the bulk of ammunition imports).
People with guns that use NATO or Com-bloc standard calibers are absolutely justified in buying all they can now - it's not going to get cheaper.
Most would like to have fresh ammo if given a choice as one can not be sure it has been stored properly for all those years.
I have some 1968 NATO 7.62 that is very nice with laquered primer and cannalure. Never had a dud so far...
My guess the gov is getting a lot of tax revenue off the commerce in ammo importation.
“Yes, I believe the power of the office is overrated.”
How’s that stimulus working for you yet.
Wait till B0 gets to nominate a couple of SCOTUs’s.
Just keep your head in the sand.
I was reading on another thread that Soros was starting to get nervous. I've always thought Soros and some of his buddies pulled some of the shenanigans to get Zero elected, but now I think it's beyond anyone's control. I also keep going back to Alfred's line in the Dark Knight.
With all respect, Master Wayne, perhaps this is a man you don't fully understand...some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.I don't think the Soroses and Pelosis fully understand Obama. I also think Soros may be finding out it's easier to start an avalanche than to stop one.
