TAMPA - After President Barack Obama won the election, people flooded gun stores because of speculation that he may limit gun ownership or raise taxes on them. Even though neither has happened, the amount of people wanting to get their hands on a gun hasn't gone down. Scott Patrick is the General Manager of the Shoot Straight gun range in Tampa. He says the number of people coming into his store is still going up. "For whatever reason, whether it's the economy or crime, people don't feel safe," he said. Patrick is having serious trouble keeping all kinds of fire arms in stock, even holsters are often backordered. However, he says ammunition is what is really flying off store shelves. Ammo that sells for personal protection is as good as gold these days, and it's costing 30 to 40 percent more than it used to.

“You might also want to think about a Concealed Handgun License if it is possible where you live. If not, you may want to move from the “not the best neighborhood” into a neighborhood where you can legally exercise your 2nd amendment rights.”
Yeah, like Montana, maybe.
Welcome to FR.
I hope you live near me!!!!
WOW—you’ve been on this thread for about 7 hours now.
Hope you have learned something.
Do you have kids?
Rent Mad Max and have it playing when you tell her that you need another box.
“Back in the Old West bullets were used to by drinks...’a shot of whiskey’ “
Didn’t know that.
No doubt. However, that didn't keep Bill Clinton (a good ol' boy Southern democrat from a very pro-gun state) from shutting off import of ammunition (and guns) from China. At the time, that country was easily the largest ammunition importer.
I see no reason to believe Obama won't be far worse on this issue.
It's always advisable to read the road signs when traveling.
On the other hand we might finally see the collapse of FDR socialism in America once and for all.
It is exactly the FDR socialism and gov fiscal policy that has destroyed the market mechanism.
Less taxation and intervention are the only cures for this mess.
have been away for an hour here and there all day
have learned there are some fearful Americans around FR these days
have learned there are some fearful Americans all around the country these days.
Fixed it.
# 43:There are a number of posters here who are unable to follow a train of thought which does not speak well for our gun culture.
Now if you will note, any conversation I had with him was civil though I disagree.
However, when newbies come along and start calling FReepers who have been here a hell of a lot longer than you have names, you might want to put your self in check lest the mods do it for you.
Could this selling provide a great buying opportunity for those patient enough to WAIT?
Sure. If you assume demand will stagnant. However, if we get to your severe "depression", the last thing folks will do is sell guns and ammo to "pay bills". The only bill they'll be worried about at that point is the mortgage. And Osama is seeing to it that folks won't have to worry about even that. They won't care if Macys doesn't get paid.
A severe depression will cause demand to skyrocket much more than you are currently seeing, so you'll be paying ever higher prices for a dwindling commodity.
So, go ahead and wait for your fire sale. Those of us buying now thank you for not buying now and driving prices higher than they already are.

Lets be honest here, people were getting very contentious with NI as soon as he expressed his opinion. People seemed threatened that he didnt think he needed cases of ammo to defend himself. Maybe they are having trouble justifying how much they have bought and will probably never use. In any case I saw no reason for folks bullying him and behaving as aholes.
Furthermore- I never singled out you or anyone else, it was the mob I objected to. Finally, I am not a newbie, I just like to change my screen name once every few years. And everytime I do it I get called a noob whenever I have the nerve to disagree with “longtime freepers”.
“Alas, someone who can read and interpret intent.
Thank you for a little vindication amid this storm of protest.”
XOXOXOXOXOXXXXOOOXOXOXXO. sheesh
You two need to get a room
I must correct you, the term used is the Latin Klowns.
And all the shootings that take place in East Chicago have interestingly no witnesses. Why? They are targeted and quickly discovered through the snitches in the corrupt E.C. police force. Same who shot down Dillinger to keep him quiet. Not much has changed since the 30’s.
MS 13 take more seriously.
I wouldn’t know about ARNG armory or abandoned NIKE sites out here. Nope not me.
National Gun Day is in Louisville the weekend after next, and I am off! I need to pick up some ammo and I am also looking for another rifle (I’m thinking probably an SKS) and a small pistol that can easily fit into my jacket pocket.
Keep the limited gun/ammo scenario for home defense.
~~~
That’s near 80,000,000 gun owners by now(give or take),,,
(hold mu’beer)
Everybody go out in the front yard,,,
Shoot Once,,,
Go back to watch NASCAR...;0)
“That’s true of slugs and buckshot only - any other game or sporting loads are available almost exclusively in boxes of 25, as (almost) everyone knows...”
The poster was not referring to birdshot or skeet loads. He was referring to ammo for survival. Slugs and buckshot are for survival; birdshot and skeet loads are just for pissing someone off.
It was evident that many here thought he was wrong and let him know it, in fact I hope it changed his mind. Better to take a beating here than take a beating or worse get killed because you didn't have enough ammo.
So, what were your other screen names? And while we're being honest, isn't calling FReepers aholes a bit contentious? Especially when you have an 11 day old sign up.
