Ammo flying off store shelves

TAMPA - After President Barack Obama won the election, people flooded gun stores because of speculation that he may limit gun ownership or raise taxes on them. Even though neither has happened, the amount of people wanting to get their hands on a gun hasn't gone down. Scott Patrick is the General Manager of the Shoot Straight gun range in Tampa. He says the number of people coming into his store is still going up. "For whatever reason, whether it's the economy or crime, people don't feel safe," he said. Patrick is having serious trouble keeping all kinds of fire arms in stock, even holsters are often backordered. However, he says ammunition is what is really flying off store shelves. Ammo that sells for personal protection is as good as gold these days, and it's costing 30 to 40 percent more than it used to.

Guns? I don’t own any guns, sorry.

Lost all mine in a boating accident.

I see boating accidents in my future too!

What you are saying is already happening i.e. Section 8 housing. The HUD people have ruined our two local towns by flooding them with “little brothers.” I moved into our area in the early 1990’s and there was no problem. Starting in 1995 the flood began crime has shot up and there was even a murder in our neighborhood.

Bull**t! You better have them at the ready to back up your neighbor if you expect to be backed up by your neighbor!

If not...get better neighbors!

While Americans hate banks, banks still have the right to own and hold property. Just as we do.

“My neighbors have been calling me Rambo for 29 years.”

I think mine call me...infidel.

(OK...that’s a joke. Or maybe not)

I have three shotguns and a .22 rifle (along with a number of pistols), but have never had the inclination to purchase a larger caliber rifle until now. I have three options within the rifle that I've decided to purchase, a Marlin XL7: 30-06, 25-06, or 270.

Is there anyone out there who could give me some guidance on what they believe to be the best caliber to purchase and why?

Not when their industry destroyed the currency, they don't.

Okay, then which of the following ammunition would you suggest ..

165 gr pointed soft-point
180 gr power-point
150 gr power-point

... or would you suggest a different type?

Why do you feel the need for a high powered rifle? It provides the ability to hit a target at long distance.

Aren’t riot targets close up? That is work for a shotgun?

I have three .. well, four, if you count the old bolt-action 410 that I have that’s over 40 years old .. shotguns of various sizes (both for my wife and I). I also have pistols for both of us as back-up close-in weapons. However, just to be well-rounded, I think I would feel more comfortable have a larger caliber rifle to go along with the .22 that my wife can handle.

bullet weights are like golf clubs...different clubs for different ranges and arcs, while the stroke (rifle) stays the same.

Fast and flat argues for lighter. Brush and the ability to buck the wind argues for heavy.

Me, I’d take the 165s and make sure I knew its ballistics inside out.

Take it easy. It was a joke.

And I am NOT going to depend on others for the safety of myself and my family. It is a personal responsibility I take VERY seriously !

It was governmental policies-forcing banks to issue loans to those that could not afford to buy-that was and is a material factor in the current mess. One thing Reagan said that was right: “The Government is the problem.”

I have mostly revolver calibers at this time. The exception is the Ruger target .22 self loader.

Am thinking about one of the new compact Glocks for concealed carry though I prefer revolvers.

I’m considering another shotgun, short barrel, improved cylinder.

Yeah, you’re right. I’m taking this WAY too seriously...

It’s just that I keep hearing all these posters talk about hiding stuff until it’s literally their family on the line, and by that time it won’t matter if they have a bazooka buried out back.

It’s much easier to have confidence in your comrades when they don’t say things that degrade that confidence...

Doesn't matter to me. Corporate entities come second to citizens as far as I'm concerned.
