- Tornado and severe thunderstorm forecasting (Yeah, I know...in Idaho? Spent most of my post-college years in the tornado belt states of Nebraska, Kansas, and central Illinois)

- Mesoscale meteorology (small-scale analysis and forecasting - hence the name "mesoman")
