AlSKA. After a thorough review, state officials ordered Governor Sarah Palin (R) pay her back taxes related to per diem reimbursements she claimed while staying in her home. The Washington Post first reported last September that Palin had billed the state for nearly $17,000 worth of meals and other living expenses while staying in her Wasilla home during the first 19 months in office.

NEW YORK. Former Governor George Pataki (R) met with NRSC officials this week to discuss a possible run next year against newly appointed US Senator Kristen Gillibrand (D). Congressman Peter King has also met with the NRSC to discuss his own possible candidacy.

ILLINOIS. The spokesman for US Senator Roland Burris (D) resigned on Thursday. Also, this quote Thursday to the Chicago Sun-Times for US Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL): "Short of Roland Burris resigning or resolving this issue -- if he can, and I don't know if he can -- I don't know what will stop it. I'm tired of this Blagojevich burlesque that's been going on for so long. The people of our state should be spared this."

FLORIDA. A new Quinnipiac University poll shows that Governor Charlie Crist is the GOP frontrunner for the vacant US Senate seat in 2010. Crist leads Congressman Connie Mack -- his nearest opponent -- by a 53-13 margin. Other Republicans considering the Senate campaign include former State House Speaker Marco Rubio and Congressman Vern Buchanan. Asked without Crist in the race, Mack leads Buchanan 34-11, with Rubio at 6%. The poll shows Crist has an overall approval rating of 68% -- with an 67% approval rating among Democrats.

UTAH. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, US Senator Bob Bennett (R) will face primary opposition next year. Former Juab County Prosecutor David Leavitt (R) -- brother of former Governor Mike Leavitt -- has already announced his plans to run. The newspaper also mentioned Attorney General Mark Shurtleff and former gubernatorial counsel Mike Lee as two other potential primary challengers. Shurtleff -- if he passes on the Senate race -- is also a potential candidate for Governor in 2012 when incumbent Jon Huntsman Jr. (R) will be term-limited. In related news, the Tribune reports that Huntsman has avoided nearly all GOP events in the state over the past month since he announced his support for same-sex civil union legislation.

Pataki is thinking about running against G(J)illbrand.

2/3 of Democrats love Crist, sadly so do 71% of Republicans. http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x1297.xml?ReleaseID=1266

Jon Huntsman came out for gay civil unions and is now mud in Utah, this is the first I’ve heard of it.

US Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL): “Short of Roland Burris resigning or resolving this issue — if he can, and I don’t know if he can — I don’t know what will stop it. I’m tired of this Blagojevich Democrat burlesque that’s been going on for so long. The people of our state should be spared this.”

Dickie Turbin just wants to get the Democrat party of crime and corruption off the front pages so they can continue on their merry un-American crooked way.

What Illinois does need is two new honest senators.

After a review requested by Palin, state officials ordered dubiously determined that Governor Sarah Palin (R) pay her back taxes for past per diems this year.

There... fixed it.

I said I never cared for Huntsman, and that’s just one more reason to dislike him. Utah should have a nosebleed Conservative GOP Governor, not these RINO twats.

Weren’t Hunstman and Crist on McCain’s special list of candidates who might be better than Palin.

Huntsman is a moderate, “McCain-style” Republican. He is more liberal than his billionaire father, who favored Romney.

NY - I can see why Michael Steele and the RNC are trying to recruit Pataki, since every poll says Clintonite Peter King would lose by a landslide. Admittedly, I think Pataki would be a stronger candidate as well, though since he's just another RINO and worse than King on social issues (abortion, etc.) I can't endorse him. I'd be neutral in a Pataki-King primary... not a fan of either RINO. Would be fun to watch King go down in flames though.

IL - As for Burris, gotta love Dopey Dickie Durbin whining about RAT corruption staying in the headlines. The people of Illinois don't deserve this? Gee, Dick, maybe you should have thought of that when you endorsed these people WHILE they were under a "ethics cloud". We had a honest Senator named Peter Fitzgerald but you demanded CHANGE and now the people of Illinois are finding out exactly what kind of CHANGE they're getting. I find it really cute how even WORSE corrupted RATs like state treasurer Alexi Giannoulias (mob banker)and Jan Schakowsky (hubby in prison for being a tax cheat, but not to worry Jan had NO IDEA he was doing that) are demanding Burris resign for ethics issues, like they did with Blago. Talk about pot calling the kettle black. I'd be all for tossing Burris' corrupt butt out if A) We would be guranteed a special election, and B) A credible GOP candidate aside from Mark Kirk promised to enter the race, but that's not likely to happen. Burris' resignation will not shame the RATs into a special election. Therefore let's call Burris and encourage him to stick around for the 2010 election. Remember Illinois voters: You wanted the Chicago machine to take complete control of the state for the last six years and bring us "change" -- and you got it!

FL - I'm surprised Crist is leading Mack by such a huge lopsided margin in the polls, considering Connie Mack's dad was the last decent GOP Senator the state had. I don't understand the people of FL's love of squishy Charlie Crist, but I also don't understand why some freepers have such a fanatical hatred of the guy (if it's the Lindsey Graham "he must be a closet homosexual" whispering, how come the RINO Governor Hawaii gets a pass with all the lesbian whispering about her?). Crist would be a "hold your nose" choice for the general election. His sucking up to Obama's porkulus bill is pretty pathetic. The thing is there are a LOT of interesting, good, and credible conservative Republicans willing to run for this seat now (Bense, Buchanan, Mack, Rubio, Thorpe, etc.) so I hope Crist ultimately decides to pass on this one. Martinez is bad enough. The freepers who claimed to have "done their homework" about Martinez obviously hadn't done so (otherwise they'd realize he had been a liberal Democrat trial lawyer who donated to all kinds of $$$ socialists, then turned Bush suck-up when the state went Republican in the early 90s, and was all for amnesty when Bush proposed it in '04). Let's hope this time Florida Republicans actually pay attention to their candidates track record this time.

UT - Huntsman sounds like a RINO to me. No excuse for being liberal on gay unions when he's representing a state like Utah. Don't know enough about Leavitt to judge. As far as I know his brother was a pretty decent guy. Why is Bob Bennett (not to be confused with RAT Mike Bennett in Colorado) facing primary opposition? Orrin Hatch has been a bit wopply, but I haven't heard any complaints about Bennett. It's about time he retired, though.

I can see why democrats like Crist, I don’t get why any republicans would vote for the man.

Giuliani and McCain supporters love Hunstman. They hope he will run for President in either 2012 or 2016.

Huntsman was never mentioned to my knowledge, he was also having to run a race for reelection as Governor, so that may have proven tricky. Crist was a possibility (but with the sexual orientation issue a big problem for him, he was probably ruled out).

Pataki may be a stronger candidate than King. A nice ugly shoot-out between Gillibrand and McCarthy will probably help his cause.

I won’t support Crist for any office under any circumstances. Support for Porkulus was the last straw.

Bennett is drawing opposition in UT probably because of his age (he’ll be 77 in 2010). He’s older than Orrin Hatch, but Hatch has been in the Senate 16 years longer. Bennett’s dad (also a former Senator) lived well into his 90s, so I don’t see a huge, overriding need to dump him at this point. Replacing him with Mike Leavitt’s brother (and I was unimpressed with Leavitt, though Huntsman now makes him look like Reagan) isn’t particularly appetizing, so I say let Bennett have another term.

All I hear about Huntsman on a regular basis is how he keeps giving the middle finger to Conservative positions. He can go sit on that middle finger and rotate himself.

This is my thought on the Florida Senate race. Since RINO Crist is so popular, he should be the Republican nominee against Bill Nelson in 2012. We need him more for that race (against an incumbent) than this one. For this year, Congressman Connie Mack is a good choice, and he benefits from his lineage. He’s also photogenic and likeable, as well as conservative.

Mack is infinitely preferable to Creepy Crist. A ficus plant would be preferable to Crist (hell, even Martinez himself is preferable to Crist, since at least he voted against Porkulus).

", but I also don't understand why some freepers have such a fanatical hatred of the guy "

Jealous of his tan. ;p

"(if it's the Lindsey Graham "he must be a closet homosexual" whispering, ) "

I don't know if Graham really is gay but the 'rumors' about Chuck Crist seem quite credible. I don't care about that aside from it's potential to embarrass the Republican Party.

Seems like just another a lousy RINO Governor, giving felons the vote by exec order (Order #1 make it harder for my party to win elections) and now he gets his kneepads (tee hee) out for Obama's bill. I wish the other guy Gallagher had won the primary.

Despite his proporkulus stand he might have a good voting record in the Senate. But would probably take the lead on "bipartisan" crap (McStain).

I doubt he's running for Senate, no one skips a second term as Governor to run for the Senate. If he were to run against Nelson in 2012 he'd have nothing to lose, he'd be in the middle of his second term.

I see little choice but to hope he's reelected Governor over the rat if he does chose reelection, can't have a rat Governor vetoing the GOP congressional map.

I hope he doesn't squirrel the party's chances by being a RINO.

"how come the RINO Governor Hawaii gets a pass with all the lesbian whispering about her?)"

Leave her alone! Tony Kornheiser has it on good authority she's no taco eater. :p

Huntsman’s name was floated as a VP pick. Probably by his own people.
