Not bipartisan? Try telling that to Sen. Olympia Snowe.
On CBSs Face the Nation Sunday, Sen. John McCain scoffed at the notion that the support President Barack Obamas stimulus proposal has received from Snowe, Sen. Susan Collins, Arlen Specter, constituted bipartisanship.
[T]his agreement is not bipartisan, McCain told moderator Bob Schieffer. I've been in bipartisan agreements, many. This is three Republican senators. Every Republican congressman voted against it in the House, plus Democrats. And all but three Republicans stayed together on this. That's not bipartisanship. That's just picking off a couple of senators.
On Monday, Snowe took issue with that view.
In a statement to Politico, she said the package represents a compromise that was established through true consensus building. As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, I worked with leadership and the Obama Administration to include key job-igniting provisions in the package, such as small business expensing and a boost in the New Markets Tax Credit.
I can attest that this was certainly a give-and-take process. Our country is facing the worst economic conditions since World War II and we must not squander this opportunity to develop and enact a stimulus plan that will create jobs and help the displaced.
By focusing on the work that led to the stimulus deal, Snowe seemed to adopt the process-oriented definition of bipartisanship William Safire provides in the latest version of his political dictionary.
Bipartisanship, Safire says, is when politicians set aside differences to work together on political matters.
But can a bill be called bipartisan regardless of the process by which it came about if only three members of the opposing party support it?

WOW! ZERO doesn’t even own his own home according to records out of Chicago. ZERO cannot help himself but to make classless comments. They are going to come back to bite big. Dr. Coburn took Obama under his wing when he got to the Senate, but in his speech Saturday you could tell he was disgusted with ZERO and the way he treated the GOP ideas.
Pissing off McCain and Coburn are not smart moves. ZERO is probably the biggest arrogant jerk to occupy the WH which says a lot in such a short time.
**Sen. John McCain scoffed at the notion that the support President Barack Obamas stimulus proposal has received from Snowe, Sen. Susan Collins, Arlen Specter, constituted bipartisanship.**
Way to go, Senator McCain.
Kinda reminds me of this episode of Southpark:
McCain just had his political ass kicked by a fellow RINO. Yep, there's some conservative toughness right there. /s/
We’ve all heard of The Three Sisters...Now, we have the Three Whores.
I agree. However a few around here are barking up the wrong tree.
The problems with Senators is that they are usually filthy rich even before entering office. If they come in with modest means they're usually filthy rich by the end of their first term.
You can't threaten Arlen Spector. What does he care, he's been in the Senate for how long plus he has questionable health.
Snowe and Collins have been around long enough to move to the French countryside if they get tossed out of office. What do they care?
I am with you — throw them to the RATs — we don’t have the 60 anyway and at least the RATs own all the bills. The arrogance out of the three make me want to hurl.
At least Sen Cornyn is at RNC who has been part of the 20 fighting pork/earmarks for a long time and chances of Specter getting any money from the NRSC are slim to none. If I was Cornyn, I would ask for donations based on the fact that no money would go to any Senator voting for the stimulus. Bet he would bring in a lot of money. Know I would donate.
I'll always bark up McCain's tree. McCain is a bad man.
so what do the dems have on these rhinos?
what are the rumors about these three?
As long as McCain wears the stench of a liberal, he’ll be hounded.
The Three Slit Nose, Always Ready to Sleep With The Enemy, Betraying Whores.
Well, seeing as he's one helluva skunk...
From the standpoint of the taxpayer (Remember us, Olympia?) this is all take. We're all out of "give". Well, most of us anyway. There's a few (3 that I know of) that absolutely don't understand that people do NOT want this debacle.
The funny thing is these 3 think we are going to forget.
It would be nice to trade Maine to Canada for British Coumbia or Alberta.
You waste a lot of energy. No matter what you think of McCain he is not wrong on opposing this bill - while the three RINO amigos are and you barely have a word for them.
