Snowe to McCain: Bipartisan this! [RINO fight]
Politico ^ | 2009-02-09 | Daniel Libit

Posted on 02/09/2009 3:38:48 PM PST by rabscuttle385

Not bipartisan? Try telling that to Sen. Olympia Snowe.

On CBS’s Face the Nation Sunday, Sen. John McCain scoffed at the notion that the support President Barack Obama’s stimulus proposal has received from Snowe, Sen. Susan Collins, Arlen Specter, constituted bipartisanship.

“[T]his agreement is not bipartisan,” McCain told moderator Bob Schieffer. “I've been in bipartisan agreements, many. This is three Republican senators. Every Republican congressman voted against it in the House, plus Democrats. And all but three Republicans stayed together on this. That's not bipartisanship. That's just picking off a couple of senators.”

On Monday, Snowe took issue with that view.

In a statement to Politico, she said the package “represents a compromise that was established through true consensus building. As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, I worked with leadership and the Obama Administration to include key job-igniting provisions in the package, such as small business expensing and a boost in the New Markets Tax Credit.

“I can attest that this was certainly a give-and-take process. Our country is facing the worst economic conditions since World War II and we must not squander this opportunity to develop and enact a stimulus plan that will create jobs and help the displaced.”

By focusing on the work that led to the stimulus deal, Snowe seemed to adopt the process-oriented definition of “bipartisanship” William Safire provides in the latest version of his political dictionary.

“Bipartisanship,” Safire says, is when “politicians set aside differences to work together on political matters.”

But can a bill be called “bipartisan” – regardless of the process by which it came about – if only three members of the opposing party support it?

No, it wasn’t “just as bad.” $500 billion does not equal $827 billion.

Agreed. He’s like the guy that acts like he’s going to fight because he knows his buddies will hold him back and not let any real fight happen.

Our country is facing the worst economic conditions since World War II

Now Susan, this can't possibly be true, and you and your fellow liberals know it.

The Bush economy, just a few weeks ago, was "the worst economy since Herbert Hoover".

So what you meant to say was: Our country is facing the worst economic conditions since January 19th, 2009. Right?

These three stooges need to switch parties and get it over with. That way the GOP is always united against crap like this.

Memo to all RAT senators in Red states—we are coming for you.

No, it wasn’t “just as bad.”

Yes, it is.

Bush and Paulson opened the door to unfettered Socialism by pulling that bailout stunt in the autumn.

Regardless of the size, either one of the two Socialist porkulus proposals (Obama-Pelosi-Reid, McCain-Graham) would have pushed us through the door and into the glorious paradise flames of Socialist hell.

It’s the only way to get them inline — Take away their committee assignments. Then make them sit in the back. Then no RNC money or support. Purify.

There needs be a price.

Bush helped Spector, Toomey would have been much better.

Has McCain seen the classless hit Hussein gave today? (I hope MAC explodes!)

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/02/selling-the-sti.html

In answering a question about home foreclosures, Obama also took a not-so-subtle hit at former rival Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., “If you are like most people, including me, and you've got one house,” he said with a smile. “ Now, keep in mind, the house that I'm in, in D.C., I'm just borrowing that. That's the people's house.” Last August, when asked by a reporter how many homes he owned, Sen. McCain could not remember.

Last week, McCain's Rat "friends" betrayed him by smacking down his mini-porkulus alternative.

Now, his own RINO "friends" are slapping him around.

I hate to say this but, with regard to McCain...

Justice is served.

Public humiliation at the hands of his Democrat and RINO "friends" serves him right for all of his many betrayals.

Never give McCain the benefit of the doubt.

Never turn your back on him, unless you want to find a knife in it.

At first when he lost I said at least he cannot double cross us as President but who would have thought he would have been leading the charge against this bill. Not me as I figured he would be part of the group working on compromise and happy to admit I was dead wrong! :)

Anyone else think it is long past time for Senator SNOWe to melt and go away? Call Algore and order some global warming. In this case it may help.

I think that McCain is on the right track with this, it's not bipartisan. More importantly, the American people don't want it! I just signed a petition at www.stopthestim.com.

http://www.letfreedomringusa.com/news/economy/2009-02-09-americas-inflation-stimulus-bill.htm

Maybe too late but I had to try.

I now group Specter, Snowe, and Collins with the demonic, evil, power-grabbing Democrats that they sided with. I can only hope that the party announces they can function with three less Senators just fine.

This is not a good development.
This kind of infighting will help the democrats.

The Rinos Three take offense because, though they are turncoats, they can’t accept the label so they rationalize their behavior.
They will take comments like this as a challenge to their “honor” and credibility (yes, they probably think they have some)

This will just harden the position of the turncoats and there will be no way to reason with them.
There probably wasn’t much chance of getting their minds changed but this makes it just about zero.

No way to avoid it though - they are what they are.

Wouldn’t it be a treat to know what they were each promised in return for their votes?

Snowe to McCain: Bipartisan this! [RINO fight]

Sorry, Snowe-flake, but if a bill is too liberal for McCain, any republican who does support it doesn't count. This is a liberal/socialist wish list, nothing more. It's certainly not a "bipartisan solution".
