Obama Begs Waxman to Yank Birth Control from Stimulus

Obama Begs Waxman to Yank Birth Control from Stimulus By Lindsay Beyerstein 1/27/09 9:33 AM President Barack Obama has signaled he will not go to bat for birth control in the economic stimulus bill — a move likely to set off a firestorm among powerful forces in the Democratic Party.

Obama has asked House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) to strip a plan to extend birth control coverage under Medicaid from the stimulus package, the Associated Press reports. The plea comes as Obama courts Republican support for the $825 billion package, for which he wants to see strong bi-partisan backing.

Republicans are up-in-arms over the family planning provision, calling it a wasteful giveaway that will not stimulate the economy. They claim it is an attempt by Democrats to push through their expansion of health care agenda — via an unrelated bill. Looking for an overwhelming victory out of the gates, Obama has tried to placate such GOPers by stripping provisions he would otherwise support — like bankruptcy reform, or in this case expanded health care coverage — to produce a bill Republicans will vote for en-masse.

Democrats argue the proposal is a smart fit for the plan to infuse Medicaid with $87 billion in federal money to shore up reeling state programs. The proposal could create health care jobs and thus offer the economy a boost, perhaps even faster than infrastructure spending. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office says it is a money-saver in the long-term.

If Democrats concede to Republicans on the issue, which appears likely according to the AP, many Democratic powerhouses, like Planned Parenthood — which endorsed Obama — will feel betrayed. Women’s advocates and health groups lobbied aggressively to convince the White House and Congress to include money for expanded birth control coverage in the stimulus bill. The groups had early success last week when the House Energy and Commerce Committee approved a version of the stimulus bill that included such language.

The final decision on the fate of the birth control provision is expected Wednesday. Though health-care advocates might be angry with Obama over his decision, the issue is not over for good

If Obama is backing away from this provision wait until he sees the firestorm unleashed by the Freedom of Choice Act.

WE NEED THE GOP SENATORS TO FILIBUSTER THE STIMULUS BILL.
Call all the GOP senators and ask them to filibuster the bill. Here is my message to them, please send a similar message and/or call them at 202-224-3121.

Republicans need to FILIBUSTER the big-Government boondoggle monstrosity the Democrats and Obama are planning. Any Republican who looks at this is appalled: - billions in wasteful Government spending that has nothing to do with growing the economy but is 100% about growing the Government at the expense of our fiscal security and private economy.

Without a principled conservative opposition to the already excessive liberalism of Obama and the Democrats, the Republicans will have no credibility in 2010. Now is the time to take a stand and filibuster this bad bill.

There are specific demands that must be made:

#1 - filibuster against any spending that occurs after this fiscal year, and insist spending be done later in appropriations for next year; 100% of spending should be focussed SOLELY on this year and out-year spending should be in followup appropriations as conditions warrant. Why tie the USA to trillion dollar debt now for spending that will occur well after the recession is over?

#2 - no spending unless all tax laws are extended until 2013; in short, by raising taxes in 2010, the Democrats are cutting the economy off at the knees; they are killing, not stimulating, the economy; filibuster any bill that does not include delaying the increase in taxes.

#3 - No money for ACORN, for Planned Parenthood, for general pet projects that simply add to Government spending; filibuster any bill that has offensive, wasteful, non-stimulus spending; filibuster any bill that has pork and earmarks.

#4 - Filibuster any bill that is not at least 50% tax rate reductions, ie, real tax cuts; only tax rate reductions and/or direct tax cuts, such as allowing 100% expensing in 2009 of depreciable expenses, would incentivize the private sector.

Obama and the Democrats are perpetrating a hoax on the American people with their bad bill, and I am counting on GOP Senators to lead the fight to expose it.

Yeah, if we go by the example of the party in the lead now,

we don’t have to pay all of our taxes,
pay our mortgages,
or pay for gasoline.

If the GOP can’t get substantial concessions like a massive corporate tax cut, then they ought to oppose the whole thing. Let the ‘Rats take the spotlight when it passes and the blame when it fails.

This bill is packed with all the pork and agenda items that it possibly can be, and this provision is nothing more than a negotiating point. It is something that can easily be removed to make O and the rest of them look warm and fuzzy and fool the sheep.

I did get a kick out of just the title of the article. Obama “begs” Waxman. The only hope of avoiding total destruction here may be for all the DemLeftSocialists to tear each others’ throats out.

I still think Waxman was the result of a tryst between a cabbage patch doll and a Mr. Potato.

I recently spoke to a neighbor whose husband lost his job. They were really stressed out about the mortgage since they had just lost half their income. She was still paying it, but was burning through their savings pretty quickly. The bank would not even talk to her since she hadn't defaulted on the mortgage.

She said it killed her to do it, but she just stopped paying it. Once the mortgage was 90 days overdue, Fed Ex knocked on her door with a re-fi package. No questions asked.

I kid you not.

Our society has become so much oriented toward

rewarding irresponsibility
and
punishing responsibility

that I’m not sure we can pull back from this “over the cliff” ride we’re on.

Todd Schnitt of the "Schnitt Show" follows Rush every afternoon.

He just announced minutes ago his "Operation Reservoir Tip". He's asking all his listeners to mail a condom to Nancy Pelosi. He has an artist's graphic of Nancy trapped inside a condom on his website.

Then he mentioned Free Republic. He said Freepers are good at activism and asked "all Freepers" to participate in his mass mailing to Pelosi.

I dunno about this particular activity, but I did want to mention that he spoke well of FR on his show. He's syndicated and his show is widespread.

I can’t really blame her though. They’re handing out “free” money, why be the one stuck holding the bag? Since property values have dropped off the cliff here in AZ, a lot of us who have no problems paying our mortgages are now headed for trouble because our mortgage loan/property value ratio is upside down. We just made the mistake of buying at the wrong time.

Oh, I don’t “blame her”.

I blame the evil bastids that have re-formed our culture, society, and public policy such that the reward/punish incentive system has been turned on its head.

And they did it on purpose.

I you sure he hasn’t already? If he weren’t such a detriment to our country I’d feel sorry for him. Can you imagine getting up every morning and looking at that in the mirror? Gotta be depressing.

Here is what really scares me about all this "birth control" talk as "economic stimulus." What Pelosi really means when she says "birth control" is "abortion." They want to control the number of babies born that will be dependent on the government. (Even though they've created this situation where entire populations are dependent - on purpose.) They have no problem killing babies in the womb to save money.

The next step is to say, "There are too many old people and their health care is draining the treasury. Do not resuscitate. Do not give them health care." When they start dying off like flies, Obama's government doesn't have to spend on them, either. If we give them control over health care, they could do this very easily.

When killing off the unborn and the elderly/infirm doesn't save enough money, then it's time for the real extermination programs to kick in. Causing economic collapse that would affect the food supplies and heating/coal supplies would be very effective ways of getting rid of large chunks of population. Just look at how those techniques of freezing and starvation worked for old Joe Stalin.

If they still need "population control" after all that, then they'll put the "work camps" into play.

It reminds me of an exhibit I saw at the Holocaust Museum in DC - an exhibit on the Jewish Ghettos in Poland. At one point, their mayor (who was just a Nazi puppet) came into the Ghetto and actually made a speech proposing that the people give up the children too young to work and the seniors too old to work. To "give them up" meaning to have them voluntarily exterminated. It was all in the name of solving the economic crisis.

Can you imagine a leader going to his people and proposing this? Well it really happened.

Part of me thinks I'm being hyper-reactive. The other part of me thinks - I can't believe Pelosi has proposed this in the name of government and the American people should be really, really concerned about it.
