The transition team of President-elect Barack Obama is keeping a firm hand on any appointment news, but the buzz in art-and-politics precincts has the new administration seriously considering the idea of an official White House Office of the Arts, overseeing all things having to do with the arts and arts education.

Just mentioned this to my artistic daughter who is part of the Conservative minority in “creative circles”. What she told me right off the bat is that if he DOES do this he should be ready for an extremely vocal and antagonistic group of former “followers” to turn their backs on him and ANYTHING he proposes in the future...

If there is one thing artists do NOT appreciate it is someone else telling them what their art SHOULD be - particularly if that someone is part of the government.

True, but he didn't have the nerve to set up an office to explicitly oversee art. His artistic meddling marched under other banners.

Interesting ...in tonight’s interview with Hannity, President Bush focused on the portrait of Lincoln in the Oval Office. W commented that his Dad and Lincoln were tops for him. Bet W had a similar discussion at the recent lunch with former President’s and Obama.

Hmmmm, how coincidental that Mr. Obama has decided to use Lincoln’s bible and mimic Lincoln’s lunch foods for the Inauguration .....can’t let W get too much credit or attention and definitely has to squash fact that Lincoln was a Republican.
